Would you go to ExpressJet today?
Hi, I'm at the point in my career where I'm starting to look into which regionals to apply to. I have heard mixed things about ExpressJet. I'd appreciate if I could get some honest, non-biased advice. Thanks!

I would not recommend it. If I were just starting out, I would try to get on with one of the AA wholly owned regionals. ExpressJet is a huge gamble. There are only 25 175s guaranteed and there is a shrinking fleet of tired old E145s. Of course, people like to talk about rumors....more 175s, a flow through, additional 145s, etc. In the end, they are only rumors. I’ll believe all of those when I see them.

It wasn't for anything bad. I was just a new instructor and the flight school told me I could re-apply once I gained more experience.

I appreciate that. One thing that worries me is my hiring potential. I was asked to resign at my first flight instructor job. Now that I'm closer to applying, I feel like that may be a huge red flag on my application.

I'm not even sure a resignation or being asked to resign would show up on my PRIA? If asked the question I will be upfront and honest about it. I learned from it and moved on. There was no safety issue or anything that lead up to it. I was just a new instructor who needed some teaching experience.

Thanks. I suppose I'm worried that I won't even make it to the interview. This is for ExpressJet or any other airline.

Well, it’s been a while since I filled out a job application, but there might be a question on the application asking if you’ve ever been terminated or asked to resign. Just be honest when you fill out the application. I know someone at ExpressJet that was fired from a flight instructor job. Now, whether or not he admitted that on the application, I honestly don’t know. However, if I were interviewing someone, I would appreciate the applicants honesty in admitting that he was asked to resign. If you apply at ExpressJet and they turn you down, believe me, it’s not the end of the world. There are much more promising places to seek employment in the regional industry. If they knock you down, Just get back up and try again. You’ll make it if you’re honest. Keep trying if you really want to get into this industry.

No reason not to come to ExpressJet. Great training , upgrade time dropping , good pay. American Airlines is in some financial trouble. I could see them downsizing faster than others if there is a recession. That means today’s 8 years flow at Envoy could be 20 years. Who knows !?!? Everything is a gamble. Go where is good for you. Don’t go based on what I say or anyone else here says.

I just feel like I have a huge uphill battle to go through now. I'm sure there are a few pilots with worse things on their record than some check ride fails and being asked to resign, right?

I personally don't mind which base I'd end up at. Although I might have a different view about that once the time comes. But as of now, I'm seriously considering ExpressJet. I don't care to get on with the 175. I just want to fly something with turbines and 121.
