First Day Show/Last Day Release
A few questions about schedules. What type of show times do you guys see on the first day of a rotation? I know it varies wildly, but is there anything that is more common, such as "usually after 10am" or "almost always between 9am and noon". Also, what about reserve lines? How are the first day "available" times set up for those? And same question for last day - are you usually done by 5pm, or is your last trip usually back into base much later? And once you have a line and can participate in line improvement, is there usually a good chance that you can build "commutable" rotations (i.e. first day show @12pm, last day release @5pm)?, or is that too aggressive? I'm looking at airlines from my home airport and trying to get a feel for whether the current schedules would facilitate same day travel on the front and back of a rotation, or if I'd have to come in/leave a day early/late frequently. Just trying to make an informed decision before submitting an application. Thanks in advance for any information!

Been on reserve since December 1st. Every trip I have had has always started in the afternoon. January my reserve times are from 12PM to 2AM. In December I had 8AM-10PM but even then my trips always had report times in the later afternoon. Expect today. Today has to be the first time ever since I’ve started I have a 0830 report time.

So a commuter with your reserve assignment in December would have needed to be in base before 8 am on the first day, and in January they’d need to be in base by 12pm on the first day, correct? For me that would mean in December I would have had to airline in the night before because the earliest I could get there would be around 11am. Wouldn’t have been an issue in January though, could’ve airlined same day. And I think I heard you are released by 5pm on your last day on reserve lines, is that correct?

I’m in Lubbock and would be looking for the IAH base (and preferably the 145 since that appears to be where the growth, short reserves, fast upgrades are). Earliest airline to IAH out of LBB gets in just before 1100. Last airline back to LBB leaves around 2030 (last nonstop is 1845). So, I’m guessing getting home is probably not gonna big a huge deal, but first day might be a problem more often than not. Is that what you would guess?

Ahh, gotcha. That makes more sense. Do you know how long the 145 guys are spending on reserve, and are they generally getting 145 IAH out of class if they want it? I know it’s fluid, but based on latest news it sounds like the answer would probably be around 2-3 months and yes (hopefully for the foreseeable future, at least 2020 anyway). Accurate?

If 145 in IAH is what you want you will DEFINITELY get it out of training. Junior lineholder on 145 in IAH for Feb is 6/3/19 hire. 2 months (at least) for training and that adds up to 5-6 months of reserve. 145 is supposed to grow in IAH this summer so it may end up being shorter, especially with more upgrades coming, which will drive upward movement.
