Can someone explain crash pads to me?

I think I understand the concept. - Rent a bed in a house a month at a time?

I was told ExpressJet does not give allowance for hotel stays, but does have crash pads on their website?

Who owns them?
Do you pay monthly?
Are they mostly used while on reserve?
Is it the same bed every time?
Who cleans these places?

Thanks!

They vary by who owns them

generally they are used by people on reserve who do not live in domicile and by commuters whose lack of seniority, company flying schedule, or long or involved commute make commuting difficult and short layovers on their domicile frequent. They are EXTREMELY variable and range from quite decent to horrible.

Misery. That’s a simple one-word definition for crash pads.

Bro they suck.
Learn to embrace the suck

Crash pad if you expect extended time on reserve.
Hotels otherwise. Most hubs have a few hotels that charge flight crews in the neighborhood of $50 a night. Even on reserve, sometimes you can commute the same day.

Expect 5 on, 2 off. Commuting eats into the front and back end of those 2 days off. If you can’t stomach the idea of 4 days from home, you have NO IDEA what’s coming.

Yea, in two words...THEY SUCK

That’s basically it, generally there are two types hot beds and cold beds. Hot bed different pilot every night, cold bed the pilots has the bed for a month.
Usually there are several bunk beds to a room. Think of them as “Airline Pilot Barracks”

No commuter hotel allowance, never seen crashpads offered on the company website site. But their are crashpads our their on the Internet.
Google: Crashpad and airport code

Usually owned as a side business by someone in the airline industry

Monthly rent
They are used by commuters (line and reserve)

See hot bed/cold bed above

Usually the owner has a cleaning service that takes care of the kitchens and bathrooms etc.hotel cleaning. However pick up your own stuff.

Crash pad definition: a place where the most obnoxious of snorers sleep.
