Reserve Time as FO

Hey just wanted to know what to expect for reserve time at the IAH base. I am being told 6 months to a year and wanted to know if that differs from anyone who has been hired within the past 6 months or so. Maybe even if mention what you were told when you got hired and what time you actually spent on reserve. Thanks, I appreciate all feedback.

something tells me IAH, on the 145, reserve times wont be all that bad. Also, I’d imagine you’ll still fly a lot even on reserve

molitvic13 02-05-2020 07:39 PM

3-4 months on the 145. 6-9 months on the 175 IAH

About right in the 145. Add 12 or so to the 175 lol

There are plenty of 175 ORD lineholders who are going to come to IAH when they can hold a line there. A new hire has no realistic hope of touching a 175 line in IAH until more planes come our way.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread but why are half the lines out of IAH worth 74 hrs. Is it a oh here’s what United gave, or the company stretching lines thin to make as many as they can happy?

Did you get the email from the Union today. Those were the best lines the ALPA line builders could come up with.

I did 2 weeks on reserve in September after OE then got a relief line in Oct/Nov and real line Dec on.... (I’m on the 145)

Jr relief line holder for March was hired 11/4. Assuming 3 months of training and OE sounds like he did 1 month of reserve.

I think you are reading the round 2 bid package incorrectly. ORD has 8 relief lines for the March bid, the 8th person to bid on ORD phase 2 bid was hired 8/19. IAH has 10 relief lines, 10th person on the IAH phase 2 bid was hired 8/26. Assuming 4 months for Training and OE that would be 3 months on reserve. The lines marked RSV, R1, R2, R4 are reserve on-call schedules and availability periods.

8 months from my actual starting date to hold a hard line in IAH on the 145.

My mistake. You are correct. I was looking at it wrong.

wild. In my day it was nearly 3 years to hold a line in iah lol

jt130 02-18-2020 06:48 PM

How many hours are guys/gals flying first year?

StartUp161WanaB 02-19-2020 06:30 AM

Which domicile are you referring to?
KIAH seems to be the busiest

jt130 02-19-2020 06:40 AM

If that’s where most new hires are going, then yes, IAH.

When was this? Or rather when were you hired/finished with training.

StartUp161WanaB 02-19-2020 05:49 PM

Is there anyway to tell reserve times by looking at the lines vs number of pilots on the roster?
