Shutdown Info.

From the Town Hall today:
Contract with United ceases on December 31st. Airplanes and parts to be returned to Ual January 1st.
Flying continues until then. Furloughs expected on October 1st. Number yet to be determined.
Cares Act 2 money will be applied for, if available.
Wind down plan will be made over the next few weeks.
Management open to other flying opportunities. No new contracts announced.
Base closure schedule not determined at this time.
Early stages of talks for flight crew employment/interview opportunities going forward, including at Commutair. No deals made at this time.
No changes to retirement travel benefits at this time.
LTD funding expected to be available for the next two years, then no funds available.
No early retirement or separation options offered.
COBRA will be available for a short period, undefined at this time but could be terminated shortly after we cease operations.
401k funds will be distributed as directed by the employee. The employee must contact Wells Fargo after employment is terminated. The company is talking to WF about individuals being able to keep funds at WF.
W2s will be mailed to each employee in January.
If furloughed and eligible for retirement, you can still apply for retirement while furloughed. At that point you would be made an active employee and subsequently shown as retired. Recommended to make retirement application with HR before the company is shutdown. A two week notice is expected for this. Unemployment insurance payments with your state may be impacted when being transferred to retired status, contact your state for further info.
If you are due for recurrent training in Aug or Sep, plan on doing it as scheduled.

The wording of some of these things may be slightly wrong, but they are generally correct.

There may be other comments that I missed, feel free to add more info.

Don’t be shocked if the retirees lose their flight benefits. That’s exactly what happened to Compass retirees since we weren’t “wholly owned”

Happen to ASA retirees with DAL too. Of course they could still ride on XJT....oh wait.

Don’t Expect it. UAL won’t give anything.

Looks like the “we lost the 175 because of too many sick calls” excuse is even harder to believe now.

When SkyWest sold XJT to Mana/UA they made a deal with UA that they’d get the next batch of 25 175’s. When Mesa bought their own 20 some 175’s to replace their -700’s that pretty much killed the 175 operation at XJT due to SkyWest likely threatening UA for not following up on that agreement. Combination of not staffing the 175 correctly, Sick Calls, SkyWest/Mesa AND the TSA shutdown is what did it for us.

The Skywest deal was to give OO priority on those frames. There was no guarantee of any kind, ever.

XJT shutting down is very basic... we fly 50 seaters, we have a ton of pilots a ton more than UA sees a need for thanks to reduced 50 seater need, and we’re the most expensive 50 seater pilots....

So what will happen to XJT pilots that have already been hired at United through the Aviate program ?

They had to complete hours and time in service at express jet, or can they get the time at any other UAX carrier ?

Obviously United will not be hiring any time soon.

Austin Milbarge 08-13-2020 06:58 PM

They have to complete their time at a UAX Aviate carrier. If they've already completed their time they have to fly commercially anywhere for 6 months before transitioning to United.

What does fly commercially mean? Pipeline patrol?

Austin Milbarge 08-14-2020 06:56 AM

It just says perform regularly scheduled duties as PIC or SIC in a commercial operation. It doesn't get more specific. This is only if you already have the 2000 hours and 24 months at an Aviate carrier.

Interesting. Hopefully they will provide some more clarity. I would guess they mean employed by an air carrier certificate holder which is reasonably broad and at least gives affected pilots a fighting chance. I can't imagine they mean any operation requiring a commercial pilot license but that would be nice.
