Went on the xjt website because I needed an address to put on an application. Lo and behold their profile says “their goal for 2021 and beyond are to fly point to point to medium and small sized cities that have lost service.”

I feel it especially for the guys with 121 PRIA skeletons. They’ll hire CFI’s with no skeletons before those poor souls with turbine time. Multiple PRIA event failures? It will be YEARS before a call. Better go find a new career.
If ALPA wants to do any good with this specific pilot group, they call each of those specific men and women to instill a reality check. I’d hate to see some previous 121 pilot potentially a month a way from riding the left seat instructing students for years before receiving another call. Just really sad man. |

No. ALPA has no influence on HR practices

what in the world are you talking about man? 100% fear mongering.
If you had hiccups or skeletons in 2019 it didn’t matter. How long will that take again?? Not when will they start hiring, when will they start hiring men and women with training failures? My guess is AT LEAST 5-10 years. Is factor that into starting on day one regional pay, 4+ years of upgrade time. As I stated, go find a new career, because the dream is over. |

It’s not fear mongering. If you’re less than 5 years in you know nothing of what the industry is actually about. The guys that have made it through unscathed have sat on the same seniority list for over 10 years while not having their airline fail. The minute you lose the seniority and start over it’s terrible as some are finding out. 2 years before they start calling, maybe more, then they call the most qualified first (the guys with no PRIA failures).

That’s the part that sucks... starting over at year one pay at a regional. It’s either that or to fly cargo for atlas with more pay but a really extended time away from home reducing quality of life. I hope things turn around faster than your prediction but reflecting on the lost decade and hearing those stories of no movement stuck in the right seat for 7+ years makes me cautious about jumping out there at the one who have called. Career change had happened and seems a lot more stable for the time but man I miss flying the jet.. not being on the road
I, too, struggled with the idea of 16 days, but it’s been a life saver. The wife and kids are happy, I’m not constantly checking commuting loads or weather, I just show up and if my flight is cancelled, so be it. |

”Reducing quality of life” is subjective. I do 16 day pairings, and sure, by day 10 you’re going nuts, but if you have a significant other that is even remotely independent, it’s not bad. I’m at the point to where 4 on 3 off would be terrible. I have two weeks of vacation, EVERY MONTH. I walk up to the gate with a ticket in hand (lots of time First class), so no more commuting.

16 days is a long time to leave the wife with the pool boy....I kid, I kid...
But for most kids under about 17, 2-3 weeks is too long. Although plenty of other professions do it too. |
