Expressjet Hiring 196 pilots for Q1 of 2011
Also two upgrade classes..........
I would think long and hard for anybody that is currently instructing and thinking of leaving aviation, or someone who currently has a job outside of aviation looking to get on with a regional It is a dismal, miserable career and if one day it does it get better, the pain and suffering we had to endure still would overshadow the few good years that is all |

i heard 195 - 196 was just too much

Joey didn't you say the same sad things about Colgan. You must be the true definition for "glutton for punishment." If you were to have stayed in one place you would be a captain now with 1,000 pic and applying to SWA soon or anyplace else. This industry is what you make of it.

Regional life sucks.

If it sucks so much quit. Stop complaining non stop because you may think everyone around you loves hearing about it but it gets old. I for one enjoy my job. I have an open mind about a lot of things. I really hate being paired with a whiner. If you hate your job quit and open up a spot for someone who wants to be there. So many people chant they can make so much more money doing something else. My advice, do it and stop being a baby. Rant over. |

I personally don't mind being away from home and love my flexible schedule, 15 days off a month and travel privileges; So for me, its a no brainer! If any person doesn't like it, don't blame aviation, blame yourself for getting into it. Joey is definitely worth listening to. If you share his priorities then you might think long and hard about getting into this business. Just don't make the mistake of blaming inanimate objects (like "aviation") when your life isn't what you wished it was in 5 years. |
168 newhires officially right now but i might not have the most recent info.
I dont think he is complaining to whine but more ashamed and embarrassed of what this career has become. This career has been gutted down to where there is very little incentive for someone with half a brain to stick it out. This WAS a good career and it is a sad remnant of what it was. Being happy with what you currently have is great but you also need to know that what you have now is a fraction of what you should have. |
Anyone know what Kind of time Expressjets looking for?
I saw 600TT somewhere, not sure if its correct. |

You'll live longer! You can always go fly for Emirates. They pay well. |
I Agree

That's unreal if that is still what they are looking for. Thought most were going with 1500 and an ATP.

OOOOOOO, I love these flame wars!!!!
Pilot A: "My job is miserable. Don't ever come here, go find something else to do because we are [point out obvious flaws of being a pilot to bring some light to the fact of obvious flaws of each airline] Pilot B: "You obviously don't LOVE aviation. If you did, you would pay your company those beautiful jets! Get out and quit so I can have your job, you miserable bastard!" http://cdn.theurbandaily.com/files/2...ng-popcorn.gif |
This forum seriously blows for not letting you not edit posts

Joe. Shame on you for having high expectations. You should be happy to get paid in pretty sunrises/sunsets and turbine time. Sure you may want to retire someday and live someplace nice. You are so greedy for not wanting to live in an old folks home with retired janitors. I bet you think you should be able to afford to pay for your childrens' education in addition to yours. Just because you made sacrifices that others couldn't or wouldn't make doesn't mean you should be rewarded for them. Go enjoy your unexceptional paycheck and your 18 days away from home each month. I know the rest of these super intelligent guys on here will. |
Damn it! I need this to happen on the ASA side!

I did, however my issue isnt really with Expressjet, it is with the industry as a whole. I knew full damn well I would have upgraded sooner at Colgan, but I didn't care that place was a nightmare, now its just the industry as a whole :) Also I love the newbies looking for a newhire slot chanting "quit then" "you don't love aviation" blah blah. I love J-3 Cubs and grass strips, as far as the airline career, your 100% right I don't love it, I think we are too highly skilled individuals to work for such low pay. Also, I have been applying EVERYWHERE (outside aviation) and unfortunately I can't get a job, however I have been able to make some decent cash with my photography business, so thats good. PS. It is laughable to think some of you guys can't understand where I am coming from, and to the ignorant guys who think the Airlines are about to really "Take off", your kidding yourself, their may be more jobs, but not a job I would want for the next 35 years ;) I haven't been on these forums lately, but it's nice to see the guys seeing my point of view are relatively seasoned on both APC and are real life Airline Pilots, not all ATP guys waiting for me to die to take my job. Also don't you guys think that part of the problem are the guys that would "LOVE TO BE IN MY PLACE"....pathetic Also as a member of the ExpressJet MEC, I have been busting my A-- for the past 3 years trying to make this job a career again, so you can't say I at least don't participate........ |

Not sure when the last time express jet hired. Could that have been left over from 2007/2008? 600 seems low, but for the most part only Republic is looking for the ATP. The norm it seems is around 1000TT/100ME. We'll just have to wait and see. It seems like it would be better to start high (like republic) and work your way down (like Eagle has been doing).

Staying Positive
One man's trash is another man's treasure, try to stay positive and take one day at a time. Going back to school is also an option, but that doesn't mean a guaranteed job either. I know a few lawyers that can't find work anywhere right now; it also doesn't look good for NJ police officers.

YouTube - Disney & Pixar's A Bug's Life - 2 mosquitos I hate when you guys write this crap, everyone's gotta start somewhere, don't they? Did you start your piloting career making $75k a year GlobeTrecker? If so, i'd LOVE to know how you did it. |

Great, no problem there. What happens when you meet a great girl you want to marry and she looks at your career potential and decides maybe you aren't the right guy for her. If a great girl is willing to look past your meager pay and constantly being gone how will you support her and your future children on such little money. I think it is extremely selfish to subject loved ones to your crap profession because you have a burning desire to fly jets. If you want to be a bachelor your whole life this might be a good career. I am sure you will learn the hard way eventually. Who knows, maybe you'll be one of the very few that goes from the right seat of an rj to a major in 2 years. Odds are you won't be though. I am sure you know better then people who have already been where you are now. |

Flying for fun is much more fun than flying to eat.

I started at ASA back when it was a low starting rate, but I was a CFI and was looking to just get on with my career. Still would've done it to this day, as since when I started here before the end of my first year we got a new contract, new CEO, new A/C, and then new bases started popping up left and right ( or at least rumors of them ) Although the upgrade time has since gone from 1.5 years to forever, it could easily shift back to the former soon enough and hopefully I'll just ride that wave out of the right seat and on to greener pastures after that. Give and Take...Got to be Happy or at the very least confident with your decision.

Looks like its time to close this thread before it gets much worse.
EXPRESS IS HIRING 100+ PILOTS THIS YEAR As for the rest of the thread drift regarding pay and bringing the industry down and ATP mins etc...we can do without it. |
