Yep, those of us who commute truly appreciate it. (And if you commute as well, make sure you do the same for each of your flights!) I know I do.

Ahhh....
the old "If he doesnt know everything then he obviously doesnt know anything" trick.

I foolishly forgot my audience.
Thanks for reinforcing my point though.

Meanwhile....back on topic.
Thanks again for the complimentary thread.

Point well taken. Must be infectious.

I guess I was trying to fit-in with all the cool kids.

Ive had this exact scenario happen to me multiple times, including the gate agent trying to put a UAL Mainline pilot on before express. Both times the XJT Captain came out and squared it away. It seems they have a good grasp on whats happening with jumpseats in IAD. Now if we could only get the ASA Captains to do the nonrev walk...

JetPipeOverht 07-03-2011 08:52 AM

Every time I check in to the gate I ask for any jumpseaters, outstation or hub, it's just simple courtesy and it is nothing that I wouldn't expect someone else to do for me- or at least i'd hope. Well done Xjet

When I was DHing I had an agent ask if I could take the jumpseat since they were over sold. I said only if no legitamate jump seaters showed up and sure enough one did. I guess its common sense and common courtesy. Most of the people I've worked with at least get that. I don't think the industry is that bad. I think many of the people who are always whining are looking for ways to be unhappy. I feel bad for them because they can't enjoy their work, they same work that those of us who are happy do.

I'm sure your wife will be asking you to complain when you see her 1 day a week. You have no idea how you are going to react and feel until you've been here for awhile. Jump into my nightmare, the water is warm. You have the right to be as cheerful as you want, but be careful about telling me how I'm supposed to feel about my career when you have zero idea what it's like.

By the way, I'd lose the goatee.

Dont Complain after a sixteen hour day in bad weather with a plane with half a dozen deferrals. Oh and today is the eighth holiday weekend you've worked in a row and everyone in your family reminds you but it doesn't matter since scheduling constantly moves your days off and you cant make plans on those days either. Now after your sixteen hour day...get to your hotel and let your wife call you and tell you that you don't have enough for rent this month and your three months behind on your student loans. You're dying to get home to see your wife and away from this jerk of a captain but you can't...after your reduced rest overnite you have to double Deadhead to start another two day trip. Meanwhile your four day trip just credited you about fourteen hours for fifty five hours of duty. Oh and did I mention you've been hearing rumors of furlough at your company. None of this is atypical. Its very typical.
