No one hired in 2011 is holding a line in DTW without vacation or pre-assigned credit. Most junior line holder in IAD is an April 2011 hire.

So I bumped into 2 different captains in the crew room the other day, they had just been in recurrent, and told me some news. Apparently ASA has more or less secured the Miami Eagle flying and that our over water converted 200's are doing the flying. They also said that the Dallas base was also going to be likely operated by ASA. Anybody else hearing this? Sounds quite a bit optimistic...

Dallas base sounds very optimistic, and I'm sure it's mostly started by the ex-DFW based guys. Wishful thinking. There won't be any new bases unless there is a firm commitment and guarantee from <insert major airline partner>.

The overwater thing is legit apparently.

What's with you guys and taking Eagle's "open water flying" thing? The ATRs and Embraers that currently do the Bahama and Key West flying are no different from the ones doing domestic flying over land. Even the ATRs in SJU don't carry life rafts anymore because they never get far enough from land. And why would AMR want more unprofitable 50 seat flying? Rumors that come from recurrent classes are the best. Only second to, "a mechanic told me.."

While I normally feel the same way about rumors I have heard about the 'over water certification' thing floating around from many IPs I have flown with / talked to. An assumption could be made that it will be for Eagle, but I haven't heard anything about that.

It just doesn't make sense, that's all. FWIW, many instructors, IPs, and ground instructors said AMR had a 190 sim sitting at CAE. Which is obviously not true and completely ridiculous as well.

Neither did Vietnam when we all first heard the rumblings. Let's just wait and see. Hopefully hiring picks up soon and attrition kicks up for all.

It's just really frustrating with your own union selling you out and a good likelihood of losing a lot of flying!

You guys still don't make sense, what Eagle routes will you do that require over water ops? Eagle currently doesn't have any routes that require over water ops. If it was to pick up the slack for the ATR in the Caribbean, much of what the ATR does out of SJU can't be done by a CRJ 200, and for the Miami stuff is not required.

Who knows what the over-water ops are for? All I can confirm is that these conversions are truely taking place, and there is no way ExpressJet would spend the $$$ to convert these aircraft for "hopes" of using them somewhere. Your guess is as good as mine, but if the higher ups are telling people these conversions are for American flying, what else could it be?!
