Need opinions on Age limitation @ ExpressJet
I am looking to apply at ExpressJet and I meet all their requirements except that they want everyone to be 23 by August 1st 2013, and I wont turn 23 until August 14th 2013. Any idea how this will effect my chances of getting an interview?

If you don't meet the requirements, then you can't apply. Simple. Wait a couple weeks.
|
The big question is, will you have the hours for the ATP by then?
|
hmm

You wouldn't be able to have your ATP by Aug 1, when i believe the law goes into effect because you are under 23. Sorry, but unless they give frozen ATP's you will have to wait until after your 23rd birthday.
You could apply, but I wouldn't count on a phone call until you meet the requirements. |
Apply anyways, wouldnt surprise me if the FAA delayed the rules even further.

I don't work for xjt, but I'd apply, it could take a few months before you hear anything anyhow. By the time you apply, maybe get a call, get hired, paperwork processing class date, well you see where this is going. But see what folks in the past have had with the process, they may chime in here and give you a better idea.

Apply. All they can do is reject your application. They just may "bite" & call you for an interview.
|
Apply they just give you an LOA for 2 weeks. What is your TT?
|
Apply. If they like you they will wait two weeks until your birthday. Not really a big deal to them.

Listen, always apply. I don't turn 23 until July 2014 and I currently am in my 2nd year at a 121 airline.. True, many denied me like Eagle, Skywest, XJT/ASA, Lakes, but 2 121 carriers gave me jobs.
I work under one of the most favorable regional ALPA contracts. When I thought I had missed the deadline and would be stuck flying corporate, I made my way in. It's not impossible, just get ahold of people. I had a training dept guy at ASA get my stuff to Baxter. Unfortunately they were stuck on the 21 year old deal then as well.. |

Union wouldn't allow that.. Probably teach CPT, Indoc, or recurrent. FAA working on a waiver as well.
That would make life easier for a lot of folks. |

I have always been amazed at the pilots that started at an airline at 20 or 21 and feel they have a huge head start on the game while never earning a degree, then getting upset 8-10 years later when he/she is still stuck working at the same regional. Just an observation I have made. |

9+ years later, I realize how silly that was. While I was worrying about days and weeks, events beyond my control were costing me years. I know it's tough advice, but just try to relax and enjoy yourself. Hang out in the pilot lounge and network - that's where your future lies. |

Great observation... I just earned my 4 year degree last May and am applying to Air National Guard/AFRC units. I'll make my way out of the regionals just fine.. Previous job experience puts me near 800 TPIC as well.. It's funny how your judgements can be so wrong about people.
You have more TPIC than I do and I have been at a regional for 7+ years. Keep up the good work, and I hope you get that guard slot. |

Appreciate it, man.. Regionals is my way of life now. That corporate place hit a brick wall and the planes went away. Airlines give me a little more stability at least.. Can't wait to disappear to the mil for a little while, though.
My compliments to you. Having both a civilian and military network will really pay dividends for you long term. Nice work. |

Give me a break. |
I'm on the line right now and I'm 21. I won't be 23 by that deadline and I've already talked to the Union and they said I will get a 2 month LOA until I can take the ATP checkride. Apparently after me and a couple friends got hired they realized they made a mistake WHOOPS!
|
well I am just going to apply and hope for the best, that is all I can do. If I don't get the call then I don't. We will see!

Paid or unpaid? If it's unpaid, are you eligible for unemployment?

(The following is something I was told by the Union, and God knows money isn't real until its in my bank account) The Company wants it to be unpaid unless I perform duties in the Training center (teach recurrent or indoc etc..) But the Union said they will cover my min guarantee for the 2 months if the company doesn't have me work. (not holding my breath) The moral of the story is......people without an ATP and an unrestricted type in the a/c WILL be pulled off line until they do. No Grandfathering or anything. So on August 1st 2013 I will no longer be "qualified" on an airplane I've been flying for almost 2 years, just because of this regulation.
