University preference and scoring

Perhaps this is an unknown quantity but interested in hearing if anyone may have some insight?

Does anyone know if Fedex assigns a higher score based on the University that you attended? Or do you get the same score from any accredited institution?

Thank you

I believe yes... I think certain Universities carry more weight and others potentially MAY have negative weight ... not 100 percent. But I do know some carry positive weight

I'm not in the inner circle, but everything I've ever heard is that university matters. Service Academies, Ivy League good, online, no name university bad. Until the talent pool dries up, university will matter.

Yes, some hiring doctor or his daughter assign a point value for your University. I watched a 1.5 hour brief with him, her, and a chief pilot about 4 years ago during a hub turn.

Thanks guys. I was suspecting that my small accredited college was likely costing me an interview. Had heard that you may not even get a point on the university section if your school isn't on their list. I guess if you miss that point it drops you to a lower tier.

Thanks

Would Embry-Riddle be viewed as a positive?

How about time to graduate? I drug mine out because I was also working while enrolled.

Some info I heard:

Where you received initial flight training:

141 School
Military
FBO part 61 is a detractor

College:
Graduate under 5 years
Greater than 2.5 GPA
Accredited College Aviation Program (AABI)
-need 2 out of 3 to be in the top tier

Career progression (advanced when able)
Instructor/CheckAirman
Volunteer work

I am sure they post all the new hires on the board at FedEx and where they came from. I think the EmeraldCoast owner posted somewhere the common qualifications on guys that are scoring the interview. All the legacies are looking for the same profile even if it means interviewing them twice before they will look at someone who graduated from a no name college.

The graduate "in under five years" always really annoys me.
Their company, their rules, but god forbid I paid my way through college or changed degrees, or took time to see Europe.

And I think you wouldn't find a single line pilot to not agree.. I was worried for my sponsoree cause he got mobilized by the Marine Corp and obviously took longer than 4 years.. Thankfully it worked out and he's been here for about a year and half!

I wouldn't fret if it took you longer than 5 years.. there is a question on the application that says is their anything else you would like to explain regarding the application.. that is where is you write it took me 6 years to complete a four year degree because of blah blah ... kid got sick, paid my way through school, etc.... they just want to know WHY and I know guys who have explained and gotten an interview just fine.. hope that helps
