Staging
#11
When I call the jumpseat number they always put me as staging. When I list online I have been told by several check airman and captains to use business. Most of the time it has not made much of a difference but I would hate to get bumped and miss a trip because someone else lists business after I already booked it staging.
I really think more guidance should be given on this subject. Until then I would just use business so you dont get bumped and miss work.

I don't know if it still applies, but it used to be that if you were a no-show for a staging jumpseat, you were banned for 30 days. No-showing for a business jumpseat, if I remember correctly, was a 2 day ban.

I just booked a seat home at the Jumpseat desk last week. We had a long conversation about staging vs business, and apparently they are getting new software that will check your calendar and not let you book business on what should be a staging flight. They are trying to align with the FOM and will be enforcing the policy as is currently written. They even mentioned that utilizing business in place of staging is grounds for termination...they did acknowledge the current lack of clarity and confusion.

well, that's interesting, because sure doesn't seem to be any FOM guidance on that other than listing the priority of the various statuses...and an employee traveling on company business has a higher priority than a pilot staging to work

business has a higher priority
in theory, only 'staging' is protected if you meet the contractual limits
in practice, a prior SCP said would be hard to drop the hammer on someone js'ing in on a status other than staging if they met the same contractual limits.
ITRW-
if my JS is delayed I give scheduling a call, if it's ops emergency tends to be a don't sweat it. if it's not, then I still figure it's their call, but I don't want them blindsided if I don't meet my 0130 checkin

There is new s/w coming out by the end of the year for the Jumpseat system. Was told that it will help with seeing open seats on the 767 and maybe make rsv online vice always having to call.
oldT can you pass your experience with Staging/Business js conversation to our ALPA JS rep please?
