Default Staging

Is there somewhere in VIPS (or elsewhere) to see how many people claim an airport as their staging airport?

People talk about certain locations tougher than others and I wanted to see how a possible move may affect my commuting QOL.

Thanks for any leads or insights!

Just take a look at the jumpseat for the next 21 days and you should get a pretty good idea.

Can't you also look backwards? Are the remenents of the reservations shown on past Jumpseats accurate?

.

Many years ago I was a new hire on Reserve. I had time to waste, I called up Crew Scheduling and asked if I could stop by and introduce myself.

I did ... among the interesting things I learned was that they were able to look up the airport I commuted from and see how many other people commuted from there also (I suspect their program allowed them to look for how many people lived within X miles of ABC airport). Sometimes they need a replacement on short notice.

Can they still do that? I don't know but it would be an easy phone call before they start their daily routine.

Do people still click "staging" when booking a j/s? A while back guidance from the CP was to use "business" when commuting or using the j/s for a DH. I don't know if the priority is different, but one difference between staging and business, if I remember correctly, is you have to cancel a staging j/s at least 6 hours prior and biz is only 2 hours.

business has a higher priority

in theory, only 'staging' is protected if you meet the contractual limits

in practice, a prior SCP said would be hard to drop the hammer on someone js'ing in on a status other than staging if they met the same contractual limits.

ITRW-
if my JS is delayed I give scheduling a call, if it's ops emergency tends to be a don't sweat it. if it's not, then I still figure it's their call, but I don't want them blindsided if I don't meet my 0130 checkin

Keeping skeds in the loop on issues goes without saying. Other than that, I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Do you use business or staging to commute and why do you choose what you do?

on the way home,
always business
higher priority so if there's an equipment change I don't lose out to the occasional suit listed

always business when I'm heading to work from a temp location

always business when I hope to trade off/drop a less than stellar trip. that way if I forget to cancel my js, have more time to do so without being lectured by js admin (not a Denver commuter and the js is seldom full for me)

staging when I know I am going to fly and no worries about being bumped

Wow. You've given this some thought. I'd be very surprised if booking status was even a minor consideration applying the j/s protection, but can't hurt I guess. I rarely use our own j/s to get to MEM for 777 trips (usually off-line), so I'm mostly going home on it. Either way I've always used biz status since that CP email.

Doesn't business bump staging outside of the shot term? I had a j/s scheduler tell me when I called to get a seat that I was going to bump a staging employee if I continued with business. I found another way to work that night since I was last to the feeding trough.
