I know it’s old school, but I just prefer the current method. At fl180, just listen to the speaker..
Obviously there are times where you need to wear headsets at altitude when the radios are garbled (overseas), but it usually works good and your not stuck wearing a headset.
If your talking just critical phases, I could deal with that.

Exact same problem at Brown! Don't know why it is so hard to get guys to use the ICS. It has to be an old school culture thing. There is no other logical explanation. You buy a $1000 ANR headset and then fly around with one ear pulled back because it's too much effort to use the PTT switch.
If you are a CA I will happily buy your drinks for the whole damm trip if you will use the freaking ICS.
Hopfully I upgrade soon so I can even out my hearing loss!
