Not yet. I will tell you though that it works as a headset/microphone when you have the headset turned off, so I'd imagine it's the same if the battery dies. But I'm still using the ship's headset on a linecheck.

I purchased a DC Pro X last year, it has my vote. Most of the time on the 75/76 I don't even turn the ANR feature on, it does well enough without it.

I've started seeing the Telex Noise Cancelling headsets on domestic 757 trips but only 1 per jet for some reason.

If you can hear outside of the ear piece (on your respective side of the cockpit) this seems more appropriate than the A20s.

Looking at the specs, it says if you double tap either ear bud, it allows for optimized voice communication outside of the intercom (which we don't have anyway).

From the PDF manual posted, it looks like it can be selectively disabled on one side.
"TAP CONTROL FOR TALK-THROUGH COMMUNICATION
When you need to focus on interpersonal communication coming from a specific direction, you can automatically set noise cancelling to Low on single earbud by firmly double-tapping the earbud."

With the exception of the A-300, I've flown all the aircraft currently operated by FedEx in one life or another. Not once in all my time on those various jets have I wished I had a personal noise cancelling headset or could spend the flight talking to the other guy on the intercom. I don't have difficulty communicating in the cockpit and rarely encounter someone else who does either. The ship headsets work just fine, IMO.

Above 18, I use the outboard ear on technique flying under radar control outside the US. Domestic above 18, I'm on speaker. I think some of your guys just like your toys. That's fine. If you have hearing issues, then I guess you need to do what makes the situation better. But, using the intercom to talk to each other is absolutely unnecessary. We're not flying RJs with those giant green David Clark's.
Just another perspective - we're not all out there wishing for something different.

It’s just what you’re used to perhaps. I’ve riden on everything except the 777 and yes the airplanes aren’t that loud. I don’t see anyone using ear plugs during the departure countdown or flight, but if I’m going to be doing this for the next 30 years I’d like to protect as much of my hearing as possible.

I get that new intercom avionics fleetwide would be expensive but so is healthcare. If we already have tons of different comm panels or are buying new ones, why not upgrade? At least put two of the new Telex headsets in each jet and let the crews choose.

I wonder how they are handling the double catering for three guys on the trip to VCP, certainly they aren’t running the J69 powered chiller for 11 hours.

You're right. They're not that loud, so what's the problem? If you want to protect your ears, then wear earplugs and turn up the volume on your headset or get a gucchi headset. My point is, making the majority of folks who don't have any issue the way it is now start talking to each other over the intercom because some people are used to that isn't a good option. If it ain't broke.........

"tons of different comm panels"??? Not sure I understand what you mean. All the jets (in the same fleet) I have flown at FedEx all have the same comm panel.

Upgrading to make a hot mic intercom option is unnecessary as you have already said. The a/c aren't that loud. Plus, I really don't feel like showing up for a flight and either have a Captain decide we have to be hot mic for the whole trip or listen to my FO whine about not being able to wear his giant green ear muffs and whisper the checklist like he used to in a previous life.

I mean we already have to worry about gesture bullying, why add something else to the mix.
