3 Million Dollar Men and Women
I guess the company got tired of using the 5 million series of employee numbers. Today's class began the 3 million series. I simply can't figure out why we do half of what we do here.

... if that's what keeps you up at nights, then we got no problems...
As long as they are below me on the list, they can start over at # 1 as far as I am concerned.
After Delta and NWA merged, part of Anderson's plan was to give everyone new employee numbers. This was to facilitate "we are all Delta now" and not make it possible for ID numbers to telegraph whwere a guy was originally hired. Our Tiger pilots can still be ID's by their 96xxx or 97xxx employee number. Perhaps someone thought it would build esteem and morale. Maybe this was a managment plot to seed desention and resentment. Or...since we still have a banner on PFC for a broken 800 number a week later, perhaps its just a reflection of our sometimes stellar IT capabilities.
Either way...the checks clear and we are hiring. Life is good...

As a 5 millionaire, I take it as a personal challenge to earn total compensation (active and retired) equal to or greater than my employee number.
Maybe the company is just resetting the bar ahead of negotiations for the next contract.
