Medical Plans
Starting class soon and trying to get a little heads up on insurance plans (before the firehose of indoc)
-Healthy employee + 1 dependent
-Healthy family, 6 total (no little kids)
+ Vision/Dental. PPO preferred
Trying to gauge plans and costs. Previous employer had probably one of the BEST plans in the industry... others I've interviewed at were pretty lacking in coverage vs cost.
Thanks!

FedEx is self funded using CIGNA, Optix, and Davis Vision to administer the programs. Every year you will get information on the next year's costs and you can make your decisions then. FYI, the company will keep us out of the "Cadillac" plan so we are not taxed on our benefit, even though it may cause your yearly contributions to rise. I have a wife and no children and my cost are not cheap but affordable and a darn site better than letting the government taking it.

This is one of the reasons that so many of our peers are sticking around until age 65. There are no retiree medical benefits ...
At 65 years old you're eligible for Medicare (and the Company wants you off he dole). Because I'm on LTD I've had Medicare for the past couple of years. My experience with them has been reasonable good. I've had no trouble finding very good doctors and hospitals that are happy to take Medicare (many providers take Medicare as "PAYMENT IN FULL."
I've got a neighbor that recently retire from United Airlines. He and his wife are both very happy with Medicare.

I did the "High Deductible" plan for myself and my dependent child. Worked out well for me.
