TLC to MEX?

Just a thought....
Just deviate the second leg from DFW home. GT and the first leg will remain.
Same thing getting there. Deviate the first leg and meet up with the DFW-MEX leg.
Both of these you are on company time during the critical parts of the trip.
Is there anything wrong with this plan? Asking for a friend...namely me for next month.

Only deviate the leg that ends in MEM. Do not deviate the leg that departs from TLC. This will retain the scheduled GT from the TLC hotel.
However, deviating just that one leg will cancel the entire ticket (both legs). You will have to re-book the entire ticket from TLC to your home airport using the scheduled airline and flight from the pairing.
The same option/process would apply to deviating on the front-end DH. Final deviation check-in will be available upon arrival at the gate for the connecting flight to TLC (assuming it's the same flight as the scheduled DH).
