"Flight case"

I can't any good info on backpacks since every time it's brought up, it's bashed in the other forums as unprofessional. I've seen a lot of backpacks around AOC, and I need to figure out which one would work best with a Luggage Works stealth. What have you guys found that works best?

I use an eagle Creek bag that slips on top of my stealth roller's handle. Works as a laptop, flight bag, etc. Its not a backpack, but there are hidden backpack straps if you really wanted to chuck it on your back. I think it's the older model of this:

I’ve used this eBags slim laptop backpack for the past few years and it’s worked out well and still looks great. It has lots of compartments and is very well thought out. You can slide it over your suitcases handles either upright, or sideways. I’ve had several folks ask me where I purchased it. When you look at it on the ebags website you can scroll down a bit and watch a video that tells everything about it. It’s on sale now too!

I use a backpack from High Sierra. It slips over my roller handle and has more pockets than I need. Look here...https://shop.highsierra.com/backpacks/

Find several you like and then search Amazon, Costco, etc. I got mine at Costco for half the price of the link above.

I’m a big fan of the backpack as it gives me a comfortable bag to take on a layover walkabout.

Also, when you walk up the stairs to the plane, it leaves a hand free to use the handrail. You may laugh at this but....when the company denies workers comp after your slip and fall because your hands were full you won’t laugh anymore.

I spent a lot of time hunting and found the Timbuk2 Ace bag to be the perfect fit (and love it). It’s a rectangular backpack (so maybe a bit ugly to some). Backpack straps can be stored and the bag nicely turned 90 degrees for attaching to a luggageworks J-hook. Perfect amount of storage as well.

I’d buy it again and again.

I’d just buy a nice Swiss Gear backpack w/ loops on the shoulder straps. Like this:

https://www.swissgear.com/backpacks/...cansmart-black

And then buy two carabiners, attach em to the backpack loops and they’ll snap onto the Luggage Works handles nicely.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I appreciate it.

Maybe those other forums you got bashed on were the wrong forums. I can't imagine anyone here bashing you for having a backpack. Nothing wrong with those, don't think anyone cares what you use.

MEMFO4Ever 03-04-2018 01:41 PM

Check out the Everki EKP121-1 Atlas. Not cheap, but the thing is awesome.

JethroFDX 03-05-2018 04:07 AM

I use the BrightLine B4 Swift with the J hook handle. Though in hindsight I should’ve gotten the B7 Flight. It does the job albeit it’s a little restrictive at times. As one user put it once you find a place for your stuff it stays there.

Tom Bihn bag is nice too. Has a center section for water or wet umbrella that has a drain hole. https://www.tombihn.com/products/pil...nt=17658166535

I have this bag. It's just large enough for the company iPad, my 12" MacBook in the Tom Bin neoprene case, and a headset. So large enough for all the essentials, but not large enough to put the scooby snack in when I leave the plane.

PA31 03-06-2018 03:33 AM

I have a north face backpack. 90% of crew force wears backpacks so we have a free hand going up air stairs. I was on IOE when my LCA strongly encouraged me to ditch the flight bag for backpack.

:

Dirty Purple - Thanks for passing along the discount. Ordered my Eagle Creek bag today and looking forward to not only getting the weight off my back from my overstuffed backpack but also looking more like an airline pilot.

Maybe now the uniform police will also stop giving me the evil eyes by not having a backpack on my shoulder? But then again, that was the reason I have been using a backpack all this time. Will miss that little jab to the man!

I second Everki. I have the Versa. It’s smaller but I’m able to fit everything I need in it and it’s heavy duty.

Will a Bose A20 fit in the "AC Adapter Garage"?

I don’t think it would fit. I measured the AC garage and it is 10” wide, 2.75” tall, and 4.25 depth. I’m planning to purchase a David Clark DC Pro X and will carry that in one of the main compartments with no problem.

It is unprofessional. When we look like guys working on the GED it is hard to tell management you deserve an industry leading contract.

Cause the old hard cases covered in peeling stickers looked so professional.

If we manned up and acted like a cohesive union, we could wear clown noses and propellers on our head and still get an industry leading contract.

It's also hard to tell which backpacks contain FFDO weapons.

Let 'em go. Find something more substantial to fret about.

Why do you care which bags contain FFDO weapons?

I don't. Backpacks are a convenient way to carry them, and certainly more concealed than the standard-issue bag. I'd be happy if EVERY backpack had an FFDO weapon, so I'm not going to criticize ANY pilot who carries one.

👍 Thought you were headed another direction with that.

gatorhater 03-12-2018 08:39 PM

I second the free hand in the stairs logic, but I reserve the right to heckle anyone whose backpack has a retractable handle and wheels.

Daaaaaaaaaa what?

I see your point. Except, 1) it’s fairly standard across the profession to carry a backpack, thus it can be considered professional. 2) I’m all about function. At 5a.m. walking down icy metal stairs after a long night I don’t need to be carrying my suitcase in one hand and my leather bound briefcase in another. 3) my guess is you are either a management type, strive to be a management type, or at one time was at the grade of O5 or O6 (on active duty).

That all checks.

~ another 5M bro with a backpack...because its...functional?

BoilerUP 03-13-2018 11:33 AM

Swiss Gear Synergy is a company-issue option at UPS; it has a top grab strap that fits around our issued Travelpro handles so it rides well if you don't want to carry it on your shoulder for some reason.

I've seen a few folks use tactical-type sling packs like the 5.11 Moab 10, but that's a bit minimalist in size for my preference.

LOL. Sorry but you are 0-3 on your guesses. At one point I flew for an airline that had in their FOM any luggage with a should strap was not allowed. I guess the passenger airlines see it differently than the freight world.

PW305 03-13-2018 05:10 PM

I thought the same thing when I flew pax... but I became a believer when I nearly ate it on a set of icy stairs. To each their own

MD11HOG 03-20-2018 06:15 AM

Yes it is different here. We don't have jet bridges. This is a heads up to new guys:If you slip on the stairs(icy or not) and are not using the hand rail, the company will use it against you in your workman's comp trial. Saying you wanted to look professional while you bust your ass isn't going to help you out.
