Default Min day protection trip drops

Does anyone know if there is any restriction on dropping carryover trips to solve a min day protection scenario? I have 4 days of carryover coming into April.

I'm wondering about the computer or human planner logic folks have experienced specifically relating to longer international carryover trips.
For example:
An April line with two 10 day trips of almost equal pay. Neither trip is in actual conflict with my carry-in trip. It's just a min days off situation. The first falls completely in the month. The second carryover trip starts 3-days prior to the end of the month and goes 7 days into the May.

One of them has to go if min days off are protected. Drop the shorter? Least paying? Removing the carryover trip will solve the problem but I'm wondering if doing that is unusual. I realize preferences can be entered but it's ultimately up to the planners. I'll email them Monday, but just wondering if anyone has some insight from personal experience.

They will drop the shortest trip that will solve min days off, even if it is a carry in trip into May. They won't touch the carry in from March. If the last trip only has 3 days in April, and dropping those 3 days will protect min days off, then that is the trip that they will drop regardless of which trips you ask to drop since it only drops three days in April and the other trip would drop 10 days in April.

Pinseeker,
Follow up question. I got ITU trng in APR, and want to protect min days off. I was awarded a line with 15 DO. I have carryover from MAR into APR for 3 days...that trip plus, another APR awarded trip (2 days) not knocked out with ITU conflict, plus ITU leaves me 12 DO.

I want to protect min days off by removing the 2 day trip, that will make it 14 DO, one day shy of my 15 DO awarded line. I DO NOT want them to touch my MAR into APR CO trip. I see from previous post that they will not touch the CO trip from current month (MAR) into APR?

Just to make sure, is that true???? Also, will they process my min day off protection even though it will leave me 14 DO even though I was awarded a line with 15 DO?

Thanks.

Magic,

There is no min days off protection with ITU training. They will only drop trips that conflict with your ITU footprint as well as any trips after ITU since you will no longer be assigned to that bid pack. The month you finish ITU training they will honor the number of days off that you bid for that month. So if you finish ITU training in May and were awarded a line with 15 days off, they would build your custom line so that as long as training worked 13 days or less, you would not get any trips that had you working more than 13 days total. ITU training never counts for days off protection.

If you meant that you have recurrent training, then they will drop the shortest trip that they can that gives you 13 days off since the contract only provides for 13 days off in a 4 week month.

Hope that makes sense.

I highly recommend anyone who has ITU approaching take a look at the article available on the MEC website (under scheduling committee, Scheduling Matters Archives). There are ways to really hose yourself if you're not careful.
