Low-cost transatlantic DH

777 pairing 2061/2Jun. Back-end DH from CGN (actually DUS). Eurowings from DUS-JFK. Low-cost Ryanair-esque inter-Europe carrier that's expanding their network.

No Business class. No lay flat seats. Best seat in the house right now has a 38" seat pitch, basic recliner with a 2-3-2 seat configuration. Just "Good", "Better" or "Best" fares (going from no seat recline and pay for everything to a seat that reclines a bit and some free pre-packaged food). All yours for only $1763.

A perfect end to an 8-day round the world trip.

LoL. Is that legal. Don’t they have to find an airline that’s got a business class or 1st class..or is our DH language so bad that it’s only if it’s available.

Hey I guess you should be happy it's not an RJ with only coach across the pond, right?

Well, apparently our DH language is pretty bad, even when it seems crystal clear (as evidenced by our recent grievance loss).

Old contract.... new contract.... neither one had specific requirements for them to search out a flight with actual seats available in the proper class. One could and can still get stuck in coach if the good seats are sold out.

But, this Eurowings situation seems to have some nuances one would hope might work in our favor, but I can't say I feel too confident about that. We have CBA requirements for specific classes of service (namely business or first class). Obviously we gave the company some serious relief with the "lay flat seat" trumps all and meets any requirement for a higher class of service. Since these seats don't meet that, we are required to be in Business class or First class. Not, "Best" class on some Southwest wannbe Euro airline. There is no "Best" class in our CBA.

This camel's nose needs to get beat back from under the tent and we need to squash this BS before it becomes the norm.

German Wings? Just pray they don't do a Split S into the Atlantic with a depressed co-pilot.

I voted no. And hopefully when our ranks are full of younger members, especially with more folks from other airlines, especially the regional bubbas who have been screwed over for most of their regional career, they will also vote no on the first deal passed to the union and to a bad contract.

Flew on them yesterday. Catering was half a cheese sandwich in a box with a sippy cup of water. I kid you not. Bonus: 8kg limit for carry-ons, 1 bag only.

Oh, and they lost my bag.

I had a similar problem. At check-in, the agent told me my checked bag was too heavy. He said I would have to lower the weight before it could be checked. I asked if there were a heavy bag fee and he said no. He said I must reduce the baggage weight. So in front of everyone I grabbed a pair of shoes and some clothes and shoved them into my carry-on and that was enough to make my bag eligible to fly.

Frustrating.

So...I'm wondering how that's going to work for an international flight, with the heavy bags people carry for that kind of trip. Seems like we couldn't be scheduled to deadhead in flights where we have to leave half our clothes behind as there's a 23 kg limit (50 pounds) might not be good enough..

Same contract language as 2011. I voted no on that one. I think it was 2006 when we gave up our mainline carrier language.
