I don't care about millennials. They are either very good or good or ok or bad or very bad. You know something? Back in the day, my parent's generation said we were going to be the worst generation ever, yet, we somehow made it work. And their parents thought the same about them, so what's the point-?
-Are we getting old or what?
In any case, millennials are NOT the issue; The big issue facing the country today are corvette drivers and their genuine imitation plastic cars! MY GOD those things creak and rattle all over the place! This creaking and rattling is obviously far more important than any other subject today and is obviously a major threat to the security of the United States. This serious situation must be addressed.....!

Me: Mid 50's.
The Captain I was flying with: 58 or so, I guess. Looked to be around retirement age.
The Trip: This guy got up and stood in the back of the cockpit for 55 minutes during a 3 hour leg. OK, I'm nervous, but he's right there. He spent part of the time wiping lotion on his hand (?), part of it eating food from his bag, and part of it standing in the lavatory with the door open.
[I have no idea what he was doing, and don't want to know....]
This guy seemed confused at times; Get this, we are in the 767 and he told me he had never been cleared direct to an airport and had no idea how to go direct to the localizer ID. I'm serious! On top of it all, he was occasionally rough on the controls, and in general I felt like I had to watch him. Second day?
He stands for 1+43 in flight!
Yes, you read that right: This Captain stood for 1+43 on a flight to California! NOW, he was indeed standing right behind the seat, but....WHAT?
Also, this guy on EVERY takeoff set power for T/O and then….Started adjusting his seat. He was adjusting his seat forward while the engines spooled up. I'm NOT kidding~
Again.....WHAT?
-This is why "millennials" come here and are aghast at what they find. HELLO?
As to me, did I say anything to this guy? Well, ask yourself: What the hell would you say?

Your fantasy of FedEx becoming a paragon of diversity by casting out the 40-50 year old white male is another admission that you might have confused the priorities of a flight department with your own political ideology.
In my opinion, espousing a desire for diversity of race, sex, age or any other characteristic not causal or relevant to one's skill as an aviator is an admission of some racial/sexist/etc. prejudice.
In this industry, diversity of aeronautical experience and skill set is the only type of diversity which is reasonable to pursue in hiring.
-There are so many examples of jargon being used ,vis-a-vis Jet, throughout the various enclaves of aviation-- from flight school to squadron-- that I'm surprised you gave the term much thought. Do you really think it is a FedEx or solely a military thing? Why does it bother you?
-The decision to go without paper is up to the captain. Honestly, I'm surprised you have an opinion on this, least of all a willingness to share it.
-Your comment about the popcorn is probably good advice.
-Your concern with identity politics and people's personal beliefs in general have little use in the crew room and jet. Plus, I'd be surprised if you really believe Fox News deserves that accolade without mentioning every other mainstream outlet.

This seems to be the norm in every industry. I was once a manager for at&t and we were forced by HR to hire based off of diversity and not on qualifications. I agree with your statement that “espousing a desire for diversity of race, sex, age or any other characteristic not causal or relevant to one's skill as an aviator is an admission of some racial/sexist/etc. prejudice.”
