Emirates

I guess the Emirates 777Fs are too expensive....and.....buying new is a better way to go. Could they do both?

They took Emirates options for the 777 from Boeing

From earnings call.....

Dave Bronczek

Let me start off by saying the great thing about these airplanes is we can just completely replace old planes like the MD11, pick them out of international and bring them back to the United States and move the MD10s out. We can totally do that, and we've done mostly that; we've added very few incremental planes along the years here. On the other hand, if we continue to see strong growth like we're seeing now, we could use them to add capacity. So we can hold and just replace or we can grow and add the capacity that we currently have. So with that, David Cunningham?

FedEx Profit Rises As Tax Cut Helps

FedEx Corp.’s profit rose in the latest quarter as the delivery company benefited from tax cuts and a turnaround in its express business. Chief Executive Fred Smith said on an earnings call on Tuesday that he has never been so optimistic about the company’s future, but he warned about the potential impact of escalating tensions between the U.S. and trading partners. “Trade is a two-way street, and FedEx supports lowering trade barriers for our customers, not raising them,” he said.
Operating income in FedEx’s express business increased 11% to $990 million in the quarter. The results followed a disappointing holiday season in which that segment posted a steep profit decline. In the ground business, income increased 18% to $832 million for the period. FedEx had been investing in automating its ground unit, which sped up its service and posted strong gains in the previous quarter.
Overall revenue rose about 10% to $17.3 billion.
The Memphis, Tenn.-based company got a $1.6 billion windfall from the federal tax overhaul. FedEx said the tax cuts also led to pay increases for certain U.S. hourly workers that began in April.

Are the 12 767’s an exercising of a part of the 50 options the company had? Or are they in addition to the 50 options?

"The package-hauler plans to add 12 of Boeing’s medium-size 767 freighters and 12 of the larger 777 cargo aircraft to its order book"

My understanding is 8-9 of those 777s are from options another airline has dropped and those airframes will be coming to the company relatively soon.

The 12 new 777s won’t begin being delivered until 2021, the 12 new 767s until 2020.

Is that calander year or FY? I thought I read somewhere that the deliveries would start in FY 20 and 21.
