Take a look at the directions in a previous post by Knightflyer and complain about our email no longer..... I think.

iPad good to go.. PFC doesn’t show new email like the old days.. I just don’t look at email on iPad all that often.

I have to agree with Frank on his comment. Before the new current email system it was easy to see when I had email because as soon as I logged onto PFC I’d see the email icon with any new messages. We don’t get that notification on PFC anymore as far as I can tell. I do have it set up on my email icon with the company iPad and check it, but not nearly as often as I did under the old system. If it’s time critical they better call or text me.

This is what is was trying to say.

1. Login to VIPS, using password and token code, see a number indicating new emails, clicking on that link to take you to a new tab and check new emails.
2. Open iPad, put thumb (or preferred finger) on home button, note a red circle on an app icon and touch that to take you to your email inbox.

I'm really having a hard time understanding why anyone would prefer option 1.

So now I am required to log into my iPad when? Should every thing I need to operate be on PFC or not?

I realize it was mentioned before, but you can give blanket approvals now. I’ll never turn away a Jumpseater so I really don’t need to give an give an approval every time it is a cockpit only situation.

It’s certainly Captain’s prerogative, but I just find it easier.

I agree with the suggestion that the captain didn’t check his email. I don’t check near as much now either. I can easily see this happening.

If I was typing lengthy, complex emails to co-workers, I'd deal with the login hassle to have a real keyboard available.
95% of my company emails are DH tickets, rest period coordination or company credit card transaction notifications.

I've heard a few folks here complain about the new email and I had the same complaints until I changed my method. So, all I'm doing is making sure that folks are aware of this option. It's really not a difficult transition to make. Still like to login to the computers in the AOC, print a hard copy flight plan and all the other "old method" options. Do it.

But, when all I have to do to check company email is open my ipad, stick my thumb on the home button and look at an icon - I'll make the mental change required to now have my iPad = company email.
If one's "aversion" to a piece of tech is blocking the option to make a particular task much easier, then at some point, I think they have to admit their problem is self induced and stop complaining about it.

I can see how it would be easy if one was using their iPad for other things, or just wanted to check company email. But I don't use my iPad for anything but FedEx required info on a trip, or training, so it sits in my bag in the study. The electronics I use constantly are my laptop and my iPhone. I don't go on the company website just to check email, but to trip trade, work my schedule, check FCIF's, read company info. When I was on my laptop doing company business, I used to be able to immediately see if I had a new email, and with one click I could get on the site. I'm on open time often, and if you sent me an email (before the "new and improved" company email change) I'd probably respond in less than an hour. Now it might be days.

Auto Forward

Very sorry to hear about the missed flight.

As other posters have mentioned, the new email system is no improvement from the end-user's perspective. I set up my company email to automatically forward to my personal email account so I never miss anything of importance. Works well.

By the way, how many years now have we been greeted at log on with Attention Pilots, your "new" browser is Explorer 11? Got it, thanks. Leading edge IT!!

You can also set it up (create a rule) to send you a text message. I chose not to mention the e-mail forwarding out of fear The Company will get wind of it, consider it a security risk or breach, and shut it down, or, worse, try to discipline someone. Since it has been mentioned now multiple times, I hope they're OK with it.

At least we don't still have our main pilot program requiring one version, while our computer terminals only have the older version.

If our customers had to deal with the same level of IT nonsense that we put up with every day we come to work, UPS would be getting a lot more business.

I don’t think that people are saying it’s harder, maybe just different. They are just saying that it’s not checked as often as they use to. For me, I don’t check email using the iPad as much as I check PFC. Since the change, I find that I have more unread emails before checking them than I used to have when it was on PFC.

Pretty funny thread, especially you Anthrax! Was jumping on AA with my family to ORD. Gate agent said “airplane is full- have to wait for the next one”. Wife (who was traveling with kids on miles) said there was at least 8 open seats from her vantage point, what she could see being all buckled in & such. They pushed 10mins early. Obviously the gate agent had NO desire to get me on the plane. Whatever, took the next one- but was a hassle and obviously due to incompetence/lack of concern by the agent. And by the way, went up to the counter (it’s called being respectfully proactive) 3 times to check on the status of my jumpseat.

With all this being said, I never went onto a web board (before now) to complain about it. Nature of the beast...

And before anyone starts in on “its easier on the Pax side”, no, it isn’t. Was a Pax guy for 8yrs. Not easier. You can keep rolling over to “the next flight”, but so is EVERYONE else. Not easy, even with the preference of the seats cockpit seats.

Anthrax- #onthesecrybabieswithout mercy 🤣🤣

I was on the passenger side for 12 years and 10.5 of those as a commuter. And for me the process on the passenger side is way easier. From calling to list and giving all the information Fedex requires, the requirement to cancel, figuring out how to get to air ops, ramp, aircraft, etc, knowing what to do and who to ask and what to ask once you are there, knowing what to do once you get to your destination (do I need an escort? will there be transportation between the airplane and the air ops, how to get to the exit, transportation to/from the passenger terminal and air ops/ramp. As opposed for example on delta, I show up at the gate and ask to be listed for the Jumpseat, take a seat in the gate area and wait to be called by name. Worst case, you know have to list online and then check in with the gate agent and wait. And if they don’t call your name by about 20 minutes to go, ask the gate agent on the status of the Jumpseat.

And I don’t think there is anything wrong with coming here and trying to find out what happened. I certainly didn’t take it his post personal by assuming it was just a complaint. I feel bad for the guy and because of his post, I’ll try to be more aware of our more complicated Jumpseat process for offline pilots.

Even Fedex leaves their own behind...

I was left behind in GEG by an Airbus crew years ago due to a door being MEL'ed it restricted the number of jumpseaters to 1 and there were 2 of us. Capt picked the junior pilot because he new him, didnt ask our schedule or look at seniority. Captains authority...you get what you get.

We also had a MD11 Capt refuse the jumpseat to his OWN brother who is a Pro Instructor at FedEx! Because he was mad at him...guy missed his events and impacted other FedEx pilots in training. Captains authority...it is what it is.

Ill fly with a millennial anytime, we have some real gems that make the older generation look like ass too.

Airbus being restricted to one jumpseat when there are 4 to six in the back and two up front????
