I've jumped on purple quite a few times, always had to watch the board like a hawk in MEM, because half the time they never made the announcement to meet your crew at the bus outside. Always appreciated having a confirmed seat, didn't care for some of the people behind the desk in Mem.

That’s what I am cautioning. According to the lady in Jumpseat, the auto approval wasn’t working (last weekend) and has been intermittent at best since it’s availability. Isn’t awesome how we have the best IT department...

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just jumpseated for the first time on FedEx. All of the people I interacted with were very helpful, and helped me get to work on time. If I could 1 leg it, I would prefer to JS on Fedex more often. There is no hell like getting the second jumpseat on a SWA 737.

Jumpseat
Truly sorry the Jumpseat didn’t work out for you.
What stands out with your explanation as a red flag was the “Capt permission” status. What would not be apparent on your end is, you are NOT confirmed and therefore would not be on the Release and therefore Crew would not know to call J/S desk to tip you off they are stepping to the jet.
Typically, when an offline jumper initially calls, Jumpseat admin creates a profile for you that allows agent to confirm the reservation, which starts a process of putting you on the release.
Without more info why the reservation was not confirmed, we can only speculate as to the prob.
I suspect it could’ve been a combo of “First time” FDX lack of knowing that “we’re waiting on Capt permission” should be a red flag in your mind, meaning you need to be more proactive at showtime urging J/S to acquire permission or put you on diff flight that gets you close to destination or to another pax hub that will get you to dest. (Normally, the only reason they would be asking for Capt permission is: Flt is full or FLT is over 4 hrs and seats are blocked and “artificially full” for operating crew comfort for long Flt. PIC can allow J/S to reserve this seat if they inform him of the request. This late in the game, J/S agent should have got on PA and request crew of 1425 PDX to contact J/S agent to effect.
Again, sincerely apologize for your missed Flt. You guys do cargo pilots a solid getting us where we need to go and we are eager to return the fav.
