They say it’s not over, I’m guessing they’ll try again during negotiations which is what the company may want.

Or they don’t want to admit that they wasted nearly a million dollars of our Union dues with out looking at other alternatives!

Hey I have this great idea! You see, I was reading this book and......

...then hire a company nobody has ever heard of, spend a million dollars AND THEN ask the company if they’re interested in discussing this.

Maybe just maybe the company thought hmmm you would not even look at our retirement proposal during real negotiations so we’ll just sit back while you divide the crew force, spend a **** pile of money and then we will say no thanks.
