Why would that be more newsworthy than the bigger demographic of shift workers writ-large? If concerned by the health effects of circadian disruption, FedEx in particular sounds like it has plenty of built in ways to mitigate. Whereas a blue collar shift worker trying to make rent is a little more boxed in, worthy of media scrutiny.

It doesn't exist, and it isn't being secretly squirreled away, hidden from pilots for some unknown sinister reason.
dude, it’s not that complicated. What is the life expectancy of a fedex pilot compared to the general public? What is the life expectancy of a pax pilott? The data exists! But the data isn’t shared. You don’t have to factor in every grain of rice eaten or not, every pushup or donut, because the group is large enough for a fair comparative analysis.

Fly part 91. I will fly 150-200 hours this year. A typical four day trip is two legs 1-2 hours each, Hilton or Marriott, unlimited expense account to buy quality food, only fly at night from November-February, exercise anytime, sleep normal hours.

Parts of that sound great. Good for you finding a job that you love.

Most of us probably end up Part 121 for salary, vacation, and retirement reasons. Some of us are attracted to the adventure of worldwide travel. With seniority you can go where YOU want to go to an extent, etc. Also, when our boss retires we know the next boss is still going to use our airplanes and not replace us with his golf partners nephew.

121 vs 91 really creates an apples and oranges comparison.

I know there are some amazing Part 91 jobs out there, I haven’t heard of any of our guys leaving to take one, doesn’t mean it’s never happened.

Yet you’re trying to go 121...

As my old flight commander said, “you pay your money and take your chances, you can’t love forever”. The last thing that should be a decisive factor in choosing an airline is some suspect data on life expectancy. Pay, retirement, schedule, base options, would be way ahead.

Well, if you let an anonymous internet forum and hearsay make your decision, then we don't want you here anyway. We have way to many pilots voting for contracts based on what they hear, we don't need another. Glad you are turning down the interview.

This will make me laugh on my runs when I see some former fedex pilots that live near me that are in their late 70's, and still flying their planes and walking their dogs.

I make $400k a year and You don’t. I stay at same hotels. I have my unlimited account to buy same food. I don’t fly at night unless it is a morning takeoff in the winter. I sleep normal hours also. My company will be around for another 25 years when I retire, will yours? Who wins in the end?

That’s great you’ve found a gig like that but Part 91 is very volatile. I know a lot of pilots that were let go at their previous Part 91 job because of budget cuts, airplane was sold, etc. Hope your gig stays around until you retire.

So if you only live 2-3 years after retirement, maybe I can stretch out my lifespan by retiring at 65 instead of 60. Perhaps that's why so many guys are sticking it out to the bloody end...
