Any Rumors on Posting 19-01

But this is nothing new. It's not like all of a sudden people are choosing QOL whereas they weren't before, and there are an unusual number of upgrade slots available. We have always had quality of life bidders, maybe more so than many other airlines.....because we have such a range of trips from fantastic to absolutely miserable. And commuters will do just about anything to get their deadhead trips.
We do have large numbers of people retiring and the company probably is trying to catch up from not hiring enough people to cover that.

Plenty of Senior people in the right seat at those airlines, especially the WBs.
Some chase the QOL, some chase the Money. That’s the beauty of the industry, regardless of where you are.

I’ve kept an eye on the numbers since I’ve been here. The below is based on memory. I’ve got previous bids but they are buried in paperwork.
In ‘05, I think the 727 fleet was comparable to the current fleet size of the 757.
Prior to the Recession, I think we were around 4,800 Pilots. During 4a2b we were down to 4000-4100 pilots. Over the years, Fleet size varies with the pilot group size. I think the fleet shrank to the low 300s during 4a2b, maybe 330 airplanes at the lowest. With 4800 pilots, I seem to remember 360-380 Airplanes.
We are 4900+ pilots now. I’ve heard rumors of adding another 1,000 Pilots.

I agree and frankly don’t think we are that different in that regards to the Legacy Pax Airlines, DAL, UAL, AA. DAL and UAL have 3 year Captains. AA is 5 years, not including the EMB-190 which is a year but will parked soon.

With this discussion here about many people choosing quality of life over immediate upgrade, I hope everyone remembers this if the variable benefit plan comes to a vote. Basing retirement off of every dollar earned in a career will have tremendous ramifications a stochastic modeler won’t ever capture!
