Default Training hotel(s)

With the amount of money I've saved this company by deviating, why can't I at least use my deviation bank to buy a hotel (and maybe even a rental car) in MEM?

We're pretty much the only company left that doesn't provide hotels for training and it doesn't make any sense why we can't use DBA or HBA funds to get ourselves a hotel that should be provided anyway.

Also why do our layover hotels suck so much. We stay at some nice ones for sure (Lake Washington, Sofitel Dubai, Swiss Osaka), but those are few and far between and not a single one of our LAX/ONT/EWR/OAK hotels meets the "decent" threshold.

I know i'm preaching to the choir but our contract lags in so many areas its not funny, especially considering how much revenue we generate for this place.

Call me crazy but I’ve never had an issue with hotels in any of those cities. Our EWR hotel has probably the best gym I’ve ever seen in any hotel, ever.

Agree that it’s asinine we can’t use bank for training, but there are a lot of ridiculous stone-age rules that this company arbitrarily enforces.

our hotels used to be much nicer as a whole, but as with everything here, quality of life has significantly eroded. Our union is weak on this. complaints get filed into the appropriate trash bin. I recently send a photo of a disgusting mattress in one of our LAX hotels, and the union said it wasn’t sufficient evidence to hold the hotel accountable. What? This won’t change until the freight doesn’t move due to lack of crew rest.

I won't name them specifically here but is that the new one in manhattan? that's the only one I haven't been to so far. The ones by the airport we stay at are pretty miserable and the other one out in Jersey has gone downhill pretty fast in the short time I've been here. Not sure why we go out there instead of just staying in the city tbh.

All of those cities you listed in the initial post I see other “mainline” airline crews at. Not justifying it but we are not the only ones staying in those.

Some of the large cities, on short layovers, we stay close to the airport like all other airlines. I was told the Jersey layover was at that location due to crews complaining about GT times staying in the city. I have written that hotel up twice now. I would also prefer downtown Manhattan. Jersey hotel is old and decrepit. Many guys I fly with say they like it. They go workout at the YMCA and run around the small safe city. I guess to each their own.

Regarding training IN DOMICILE my previous legacy handled it the same. If you are OUT OF DOMICILE then the company covers it. If you allow deviation funds to be used in domicile would this not open pandora’s box to force the company to cover all expenses in domicile? I think this may be the consternation.

Because it's your Domicile. Where you are based.

Yes! That is what is being missed by the op. Deviation funds are for deviation from domicile.

Yeah we know that but its asinine that we aren't giving our pilots hotels for training, domicile or not.

Asinine really? Please list the other major airlines that give their crewmembers hotels in domicile for training besides new hire training. It appears it’s industry standard. If you want that mold broken I get it but claiming it’s asinine is absurd based upon industry standard.
