SMFH, I’m very much familiar with our contract as it pertains to picking up OT. MU is completely different than picking up OT. As of right now we can pick up no more that 6hrs of OT per month except if you have MU time.
My point is one should be allowed to fly to FAR limits if one chooses to do so.

Second, so someone should be able to pick up as much open time as they want, but shouldn't be allowed to fly to 65.

Yeah, it's a "thing".
30 hours in 7 consecutive days (domestic)
32 in 7 (international)
Probably the two most likely limits encountered by FedEx guys. I blocked out 17 minutes late and flew an extra 20 minutes on the first leg to NRT on a 12-day trip which was all it took to throw my optimized trip out of 32 in 7 limits requiring a major revision (and that was without any outside commercial flying).
Among others, there's also:
100 hours in a calendar month
1000 in 12 calendar months
30 hours in 7 consecutive days (domestic)
32 in 7 (international)

United for certain, currently. American and Delta did, but I don’t know as of today what the policy is. I could ask a handful of folks from the latter if they’re still at Draken, but I’m too lazy.
To be fair, none of them are flying 121 or charter, and none are doing it for money. May be a different discussion.

By the way, nice job avoiding an answer on your conflicting positions that a pilot should be able to fly as much as they want and shouldn't be able to fly until age 65.

They don't restrict your flying on your days off. You can fly as much as you want on your days off. You just can't have another job that has hours that count against FAR limits without getting their permission first. It's kind of like Apple saying that their employees can't do contract work for Google because it may harm Apple. As Adler pointed out, another commercial flying job could have a negative impact on FedEx. It's part of the terms of employment.
