Contract flying

Forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere, but does FedEx allow its pilots to fly for pay elsewhere on days off? (i.e. corporate contract flying)

Thanks

Not without specific written approval. And why would they or should they?

Because it should be their choice

 So, you fly for compensation elsewhere and between your outside flying and FedEx flying you've exceeded the regulated flight time limits. You're saying FedEx should have no say or issue with the fact that you've made yourself unavailable for the work they hired you to do?

The contract requires that you get approval for any outside compensated flying. I came from the corporate world, and had a month off between BI and systems that I could have used for some contract flying. I emailed a request to the fleet captain and was denied. YMMV. I’m happy to be here and don’t feel like I’m missing out by not having contract work available to me.

I agree but I personally thought during 4A2B we should have been able to supplement our income with our earned license's. It would be simple to just make it a termination offense to exceed time limits by doing outside flying or missing a FedEx trip. I would think exceeding regulated limits is really only a real problem on two airframes the MD and 777, but could be wrong.

A termination offence? You want to add yet another paragraph to Appendix S? No thanks.

If I remember correctly, during 4a2b, they did encourage people to take PLOAs to go fly somewhere else, if they had the opportunity to do that.

And then Management complained/harassed pilots that went on MLA! WT?

On face value you may be correct. But first get the FARs and any fatigue liability changed. Then come back and make the same statement. Until then, just sour grapes.
