IMPORTANT! Scheduled D/H G.T. Airline Tickets
Ok, so here's a HUGE major issue. Listen up here! Especially if you bid and get secondary lines that involve any awarded trip and you desire the use of that VIPS pairing scheduled airline ticket in L, J (business class), and as an example on a longer int'l flight segment. In other words, say that you might connect up with the flight leg per the scheduled D/H. And in business OR first class. Let's say that you might deviate on the first scheduled D/H airline leg to connect up with the former because of where you desire to commute in from (i.e. where you live?). Global Travel is screwing this up, BIG TIME! Ensure, make sure that when you use the SLG crew software when even the practice solution comes out on that Friday to call GT on the phone. Global Travel must then book you that SCHEDULED business class D/H airline ticket! Per the VIPS trip pairing you're most likely to get!! Or, do this at the very least when the secondary lines are awarded for the following bid month. If you don't, you risk this and I will ADD, very painfully end up in ECONOMY class on a very long D/H! These business class tickets sell out very quickly, PERIOD. They (the airline) can NOT and will NOT hold any ticket reservation without a name attached to it. Oh sure, GT will wait list you in business class if this happens, but that doesn't necessarily mean you will get it. This has been happening over at GT as explained to me that their computer system has been kicking out the queued automation issued tickets out of that airline's system. So, what happens then is GT travel says that they must manually issue these tickets! And, then who know exactly when GT will actually do this as it's a first come first serve based on trip date order?!! It's so effed up. And, FedEx doesn't care whether you filled out an INSITE report or not. And, GT doesn't care either whether you get stuck in ECONOMY on a long int'l SCHEDULED D/H! Even IF you're able to secure a business class ticket on another airline, you may end owing the co. a lot of $$$! GT says it's NOT their fault. An INSITE report response says this is G.T.'s area, and that they don't deal with this! Worse yet, our CBA allows them to get away with this! Check it out. Future contract negotiations, fellas?!!! What's important to you??!! Besides the almighty dollar bill.

We all feel your pain, but nothing you're posting here is new information. There are several grievances related to these issues in the works, so please be sure to document everything and send all your data to ALPA using a PDR. You'll find the link on the main MEC page.
A few points of correction to your post:
Unless you’re talking about a multi-day DH, GT really isn’t involved in buying the ticket you will use to join up with a segment of the scheduled DH. If you’re doing that, you have to re-buy the whole ticket and you’re the one to initiate that, not them. Nothing is stopping you from doing that and securing those seats the second you’re assigned to the trip.
You can’t call GT and demand a ticket for a trip you think you might get based on the SLG practice solution. Until you see your name at the bottom of the trip (usually late Tuesday the week secondaries are final), there’s nothing GT can do for you. Once your name is there, have at it. Get proactive and get the tickets that you plan to use as soon as possible. Waiting for GT to do it is not the solution.
If you still end up in coach when you should be in a higher class on a flight(s) over 10 hours of block, then you have the option to deviate and get 130% of the Established fare to go find the correct class on another flight.

As soon as you’re assigned a trip, call GT and make them book the DH depicted on the pairing, whether you plan to take it or not. And check ahead of time to ensure they have seats available so GT can’t lie to you. It’s that simple.

Excuse Me?
And, what you're telling me is nothing new either here. I actually have in fact booked the D/H tickets based on the practice solution on the SLG (secondary lines). BEFORE ever getting the trip(s), OR not. I am proactive. And, I have been successful doing it this way. What are you talking about? I've been here awhile, too. I've been booked in economy, then wait listed for business class when assigned the trip OR even calling ahead and booking it myself through GT. Now with COVID-19 it doesn't even matter so much as people aren't traveling. And, with a severe airline schedule reduction.

I actually have been doing that since this had happened to me. I'll book the airline ticket even based on a practice solution SLG secondary line for the following bid month. Before actually being awarded any trip. GT will do it. Now with COVID-19, it's about as a moot point as it gets.
