Change My View - Part 117

Commuting here is quite a bit different then at the pax carriers when you consider many pairings begin at an out outstation, the deviation bank policy, and less weekends. There's very little about our schedules that resembles pax schedules.
All that said the fact that management is visit against it bears trying to understand why.
Beware the unintended consequences

Beware the unintended consequences
I work for UPS, so I’m familiar.
An eye toward unintended consequences is prudent, but so is not intimating downside effects to commuters without first diving into 117 and especially its FRMP process.

doubt seriously the company is going to invest any $$ in an aircraft thats going the way of the dinosaur.....just sayin'
Also, previous posts that pertain to, and I'm paraphrasing...if the company wants it, it can't be good for us, and that ALPA is for it because it would increase the demand for more pilots to increase dues revenue is spot on. If we think that ANYTHING is being put into place to make the pilots life better, you're kidding yourself. Ask any lawyer or accountant....it's all about the bottom line for the big dogs. Pilots are nothing but a cost center to an airline.

Plusses and minuses to it for us. It's a HUGE plus for UPS and UPS pilots are pushing it like crazy. In fact the primary push is from UPS pilots, Teamsters pilots (Atlas) and ALPA National - doesn't mean it's bad for Fedex pilots just means that's where the energy is and, by far, the biggest potential improvements. Most of 117 is already better protected by our own work rules. Yes, indiscriminate extensions would be stopped here which would be huge and likely the Company's biggest concern.

Also, you can do 5 consecutive night time ops provided you are provided a suitable rest facility for no less than 2 hours in between legs. Not 3 night time Ops as was was stated.

What they probably really don’t want is the duty day limits. No more 16 hour limit. You can only extend 2 hours once before getting 30 hours of rest. No more back to back 16 hour days.

I haven’t read the whole 117 a while so I’m not sure how the day lines would be effected. I think each of us need to invest time in reading it and while reading it think about how it will effect your typically awarded lines and how it would effect those you’d like to have. At my last job part 117 really screwed with our schedule for the worse by extending how many days you were on the road to make the same amount of pay. I agree the company will put out info to support their position but I think we all need to be very careful with this beast. This is just as much a QoL issue as the vacation system we currently have, Emotional conjecture and posturing without taking the time to read the rules is blind ignorance. ALPA literature will posture just as much as the company but for other self motivated reasons. Read the darn rules, apply them to your February line, and recognize both alpa and Fedex have something to gain and something to lose.

last but nothing least the FAA legal interpretations of 117 sections

save the PDFs to GoodReader or whatever app you use and read them on your next flight when you have nothing else to do. Discuss with others on the flight deck. Don’t wait to be told this will or will not effect your life. Figure it out for yourself. I think it’s age to say commuters try to make as much as possible in as little time as possible. Make sure you can still do that.
