Champva and Buy-up
I currently have the FedEx Buy-up medical coverage, and just found out I am eligible for champva coverage. I’ve been a Tricare Prime recipient from birth and into my own Active Duty career, and thus have no idea how this would affect real world medical costs/coverage options. If anyone could spare a PM to talk me through it, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Tricare is always secondary to other health insurance. Essentially, once you meet the small deductible of Tricare, your health care ends up at no out of pocket cost as Tricare will end up covering your co-pays from buy-up.
I’m not familiar with ChampVA though. Is there a premium for that? Does it only cover care for certain VA conditions?

Thanks.
champVa is one or the other with tricare, you can’t have both. It is also a secondary. The part I cant figure out is the premium and it is a ‘we are experiencing high call volumes’. Other than premium, the question would be is there enough coverage to drop to orange/purple plan to warrant a premium savings from FDX? Just curious if anyone out there has it, and how it worked for them. I had tri/rsv for a couple months before I started here and it was worthless. So I am hesitant, and the the literature I have found says it is like TFL but different.
