Cargo Under Part 117 Effort Accelerating

ALPA National efforts to get us placed under Part 117 are accelerating. They've added 17 new House sponsors since the end of January. The latest is Ihlan Omar [D-MN-5]. There are also indications they will try to get any SUPERMAX legislation connected to the effort. ALPA lobbyists are distributing documents to Congress that are extremely troubling and deceiving.

Here's what one says:

"The cargo companies do not reflect or represent the pilots’ view. ALPA, the Independent Pilots Association, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters all support the FAR 117 standard. ALPA conducted a vote of its FedEx Express pilots in July 2019 on the matter."

I don't remember getting that ballot. Do any of you? This information has been added to my "Say no to 117" website under "News" and there is additional information at "History and Facts." It's disturbing that ALPA lobbyists are now lying to Congress to get this Bill passed. I could still use some more help in getting more signatures on my online petition at http://saynoto117.com I am making it easy. I'll take the target on my back. I'll do the legwork. Nobody is going to publish your name anywhere. I am only providing signatories in correspondence with Congress that there are real cargo pilots who missed the "vote" ALPA conducted of FedEx pilots on the issue who aren't drinking the ALPA koolaid.

For the trolls (from the "about" section): I am a Memphis-based MD-11 Captain. I have been an ALPA member in good standing since I was hired in 2005. Although I have already been called a "useful idiot of management" since starting this website, I have never been in management, never sought a management position nor even taught in the schoolhouse or done any special projects. I have been a line pilot for 15 years (but know that I am 80%+ in my seat and do plenty of night hub turns). This is being undertaken by me--alone--because I see our inclusion in Part 117 causing more circadian rhythm swaps and associated fatigue and being a huge hit on our way of life.

I went to the website and sent my reps letters. I DO NOT want FAR117 for FedEx pilots. We already do a good job dealing with fatigue. But we screwed up getting rid of the disputed pairings.

Even if you get the majority of Fedex pilots to sign a non binding effort (good luck with that), how do you envision a Fedex sub cutout, because virtually EVERYONE else in the cargo world is pushing for it, including your own national union? Again, good luck with that!! It is basically an exercise organized by one individual who is clearly throwing a tamper tantrum trying to fight years of science based research because his schedule might get affected not caring about the other high percentage of the cargo population that will most likely benefit from it!!

Every time I hear "science based" I laugh. The science says that if our hub turns were just a little longer, we're safer and legal to go fly longer than we already do.

Just like in the trucking industry, you're 30 minutes from your destination on a 7+30 duty day but you haven't taken your 30 minute break in 8 hours. So you must pull over, wait 30 minutes, to drive that last 30 minutes. Science!!!

Agreed. Great analysis. The IPA and it’s members are fully behind Part 117.

Yeah, why don’t we make an already miserable night even worse by adding an hour or two for a “longer” opportunity for sleep that many can’t do anyways and for what your body is not designed for, and the cherry on top land when at your layover city with the sun already up. Yeah, I see how that makes sense.

FedEx Pilots wanted 117, now they don't? Or maybe they did want it. Just address it in 2021 when the contract expires. Address then flying in the new series of deadly diseases that will plague us for years. And get a cola to the A plan, pension. Good luck fellas. Illl be gone.

More commutes and day/night swaps. Not good.
