It seems we are trying to get rid of all symbols of past offenses. People want schools, streets, cities, teams, to be renamed. The Democrat party was the party of slavery, segregation, kkk, Jim Crowe, etc. So I’m just surprised that the woke sjw haven’t gone after the name Democrat party. As in renaming the party to something else, not abolishing it. Although seeing their stance at abolishing police, I’m surprised they aren’t going for that since it’s also an existing entity.
As for the supposed southern strategy, let’s assume that myth is true (you can find on duck duck go how it’s been debunked). It still doesn’t change the fact that it was the Democrat Party that was for all those racist things and whose name still exist. They are going after names of people who were racist or otherwise treated people unfairly regardless of any understanding of them in today’s world. The fact is that the GOP has never been for anything of the racist institutions the D party was for. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. And they get rid of their racist like the Iowa congressman. The D’s had kkk Cyclopes in their party in the not too distant past. The point being that it’s the D party that is historically and factually associated with racism.
Lastly, like I said, the free market will decide this. Of course corporations are part of the free market. Where on my post did you assume I meant anything else other than some confirmation bias on your part. I don’t know the ownership structure of this team but assuming it’s a single person ownership, it’ll come down to whether he can still make a profit without sponsorships, or if he can’t, whether he is wealthy enough to care. Again, free market.

There is not one mainstream Democrat calling for the abolishment of the police. It is abundantly clear that “defund the police” really means reinventing the police. It’s not the best slogan. Nevertheless, it’s a straw man that you’ve bought into or just plain conjured in an attempt to bolster your view.
As for your suggestion that the Southern Strategy is a myth and to look it up on a search engine...seriously? Sure, you’re entitled to your opinions, but a search suggestion is not a reference. That would be the equivalent to someone in a debate ending with “look it up”. Talk about confirmation bias. Again, take any prominent and outspoken racist or white supremacist organization and the party they consider themselves in line with clearly begins with R. As for Republicans and institutional racism; We could go back and forth on philosophy, public policy, etc. This would be futile in this forum.
As for the free market. It seemed to me that your last two sentences were contrasting each other in that post. Fair enough, I misunderstood.

Just because YOU haven’t considered it a derogatory term doesn’t mean it isn’t. Just because the team has been called that name for a few decades doesn’t mean we can’t do better. I grew up between the Northern Cheyenne and Crow Indian reservations so I know a little about the subject. I agree that most Native Americans don’t really care too much about the name, mostly because they are in too desperate or hopeless of a situation to have the energy to care.
Sherman Alexie has a couple books that are fantastic if anyone is interested on some perspective. Tonto and the Lone Ranger Fist Fight in Heaven, as well as The Mostly True Story of a Part Time Indian.....or something close to that if I remember

So, why do we not have teams named the New Jersey (derogatory word against Jews beginning with a K, (with fans gesturing counting money)) -or- The Nashville (N word)? The answer is that we wouldn’t. Your associating names of schools, political parties, streets, etc. is not even in the same ballpark as a clearly racist pejorative.

You act as if this issue came up in a vacuum. It is directly related to everything that is happening right now. It started with defund the police because somehow all police are racist. Then it moved to confederate statues, then statues of Columbus, then Sera, then presidents, calling for the renaming of the city of Columbus and DC, now it’s moving on to derogatory names of sports teams. And at some point it will move on to the next thing. It’s the same people who are offended (many times rightfully so) who are the ones who keep calling for these things.
Next, it’s not just one Democrat calling for defunding the police. There are cities and counties either in the process of defunding the police or have already voted to do so (NYC, Minneapolis, LA off the top of my head). It’s not just reforms. It’s also defunding.
Lastly, I’m not the one that invoked a conspiracy theory, the southern strategy. That was you. So I’m not required to prove your red herring. It’s not even relevant to what I was saying anyway, even it was true. Which it isn’t.

Go to germany...check out all the places named 'Hitler ave' and 'sieg heil shopping center' and look at all the third reich flags flying on peoples trucks. Oh wait....you can't...because that would be ridiculous.

So, if you want to make your point effectively try to acknowledge those rather important discriminators else you just become one of the snowflake crowd unwilling to accept the possibility that being offended and moving on with life is just part of living in a free society.

Again, “defund the police” does NOT mean the abolition of police. It is a poorly chosen slogan that really means that a major overhaul is being called for....rightfully so.
Never mind the dog whistling by Goldwater, Nixon, Reagan; “states rights”, “forced busing” “voting rights”, “welfare queens”, etc, white southerners morphing to red states, or better yet, Lee Atwater only spelled it out plain as day in his infamous interview. Call the obvious a conspiracy theory or red herring if that helps you sleep at night.
