I know I have no chance; no military time, nothing that stands out on my very basic civilian part 121 resume.. definitely no shuttle landings.. but figured it’s worth the half-court (maybe full court) heave of a shot.

I guess I’ll have to pull out my old dusty log books... but they seriously want to know *every* hour of every aircraft you’ve flown? I have a list of my aircraft types and total hours in each one.. what they ask you on airlineapps.. but they want to know night hours, landings in that a/c.... that will require digging out the old logs- I'm
assuming a wild guess will just make you look bad if you actually get an interview and they decide to take a peak inside your logs ?

If they’ve turned down a former shuttle pilot (true story).. they appear to be quite particular, Lol.
But I also know of a former colleague who was hired there from my regional who had told me he’d not kept a logbook in over 10 years... so somehow he suddenly remembered his time and landings and must’ve gotten writers cramp and an interview and job.

oh well... it’s a pipe dream to fly purple aircraft, so worth the effort to work at getting it right..

Same background and they took me. You’ve got a chance. Update the app at least every month. For past times, come up with a justifiable and reasonable formula (I don’t have suggestions sorry) From Aug 1 start keeping what we’re looking for.

Definitely won’t get the job if ya don’t try. Put in the work and update it regularly (weekly). Same background, had my app in for 7 years and eventually got hired. Blessed to be here. Good luck to ya!

PS- Electronic logbooks like Logbook Pro would do all of that for you.

I was just a normal 121 guy as well, and they took me. Lots of us here in fact. It's not Delta, they are looking for normal people that are tolerable on a long trip and have captain experience. You seem to have a humble attitude, which I think is also a desirable trait... So please do go through the effort to get a solid app in!

Like many folks, I've maintained an app at FedEx for several years. Just wondering if there is a way to upload a cover letter? I'm not seeing that option.

An electronic logbook is the only way to go when filling out Airlineapps, pilotcredentials, and the FedEx app. FedEx used to be on pilotcredentials, but made their own for infosec reasons, and you will notice that their app is almost exactly the same as the pilotcredentials apps. That said, SWA and AA are going to ask you for the exact same things, and that’s not even as detailed as Airlineapps.

Put your stuff in an electronic logbook even if it takes weeks!

Maybe everyone already does this - but I was updating my application today and was rather disappointed that when I added a new job, it went to the bottom of the stack - even though it is my current / most recent job. It looked confusing to me when I printed my app to check for errors, and would imagine that anyone grading it would feel the same.

It took a bit of time, but I re-entered all my prior employment starting with the furthest away, and then built the history to current (the opposite of Airline Apps). This has the added benefit as I assume I will have to add 'another' new job in the not too distant future and can now add it to the bottom, and keep the stack in chronological order.

It is disappointing to not be able to add flight time though...hopefully soon!

People can have an impressive resume, but can't pass the knowledge and cog test, can't make a rational decision in SBI, can't explain their decision or, finally, can't sit in a room with two interviewers and come across as someone that anyone would want to spend time with in a cockpit.

So, we have hired MANY people with your resume and experience. If you really want the job, you will spend whatever time it takes to collect the requested information. Remember, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

I'm going to say this very nicely. I wish we would hire more civilian pilots. However; if you're not wiling to put forth your best application and at least *try* to dust off your logbooks and list your applicable flying time, then please GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. WE ... or at least I don't want you here. And I sure as heck don't want you flying with me.

Most classes over the last few years seem to be a 50/50 split of military vs civilian.. so yes, you got a chance if you take the time to do everything they ask of you.. (including entering all of your 152 time from 20 years ago..
