CAN Layover

All kidding aside, how many more indignities are this crew force/industry going to accept in the interest of moving freight out of China. Fedex management seems happy enough to pass along pronouncements of ever intrusive and ridiculous requirements and our company, our management, eager to make big money off the backs of its front line employees, just passes along this garbage. I know those of us lucky enough to be senior or not on a fleet that goes to Asia can avoid this stupidity, but not all can. I wish our union would grow a pair and just say No, and strongly advise all to do the same. I know without a formal agreement by the company to do so, some of our pilots will continue to just fly into China and accept the conditions forced on them. I know Fedex's answer, if forced by lack of willing participants, would be just to open their wallet and pay more, but we are not even doing that. It's time to say, enough is enough.
I completely agree that some of the layover restrictions are bs but if people continue to accept it change wont come. Premium pay is still flowing so people continue to do it.

Don't trip over the terms missing the point. Had lunch with two triple bros today and both were on draft. We are our own worst enemies........

Coming up on year 20 with this union (not all at FDX), and I've seen this time and again with ALPA. It's all about the payrates and thinking about "getting ours" during upcoming Section 6. Meanwhile, we've passed up great opportunities right now to fix issues when the Corp. needs our help. To me it's clear - when the Corp. comes to us and needs us - we shouldn't sign a single MOU until all open grievances are resolved, in our favor.
Now, I should say, I've always been focused too much on my life outside of flying - which I love to keep that way - and never really volunteered for ALPA like so many great dudes/dudettes do. With all due respect to those fine folks, to us, we need the IPA, a union with real resolve.

But, at a previous non-ALPA carrier, all outstanding/open grievances (seemed to average 3-4 open grievances at any given time during the year) were actually resolved in our favor, if/when the airline needed something from the pilot group, before we agreed to new 'efficiencies' like our MOU's here.

As if on cue - while our brothers bust their ass in Asia for pennies on the Millions of dollars being made, and we agree to and sign MOU's without fixing any outstanding issues, from the union's email yesterday:
"ALPA has filed a grievance concerning the Company’s violation of Sections X.X, X.X, X.X, X.X... by not providing deviation bank credit in the amount of the Baseline Fare for a ticket for a back-end deadhead on Company aircraft to base. For the full text, please see Grievance XX-15, from the list of 2020 Grievances found on..."

While at an ALPA carrier a couple lifetimes ago, we did have a much, much better success rate at winning grievances during arbitration than our absolute losing streak we have here (admittedly, that airline didn't have near the capital, nor legal team, that our Corp. does).
