$$$ Pay - MOU/COVID19 Close Contact Situation
 
So, this is my experience I'm dealing with currently. Maybe this will help others should they run into a similar situation. I had a "close contact" COVID19 event with a person I came into contact with. So, I needed to quarantine for 14 days per the CDC/FAA guidelines and be taken off of my trip. I called in on the PFC, SCK status in VIPS (don't do this IF possible, CALL THE on duty D.O.) I'll tell you why here in a minute. So, the timing of the events as follows: 1) I already deviated on the front end D/H of a 64:07 trip, pay CRD hrs. (60 hrs. notice). 2) performed the initial trip check-in. 3) Prior to 07:00 CST on the day before trip's front end D/H listed myself SCK in VIPs. 4) Put in an unanswered phone call to the D.O. 5) Call he returned a couple hrs or so later. Explained my situation and that I was getting a COVID19 PCR nasal test. Would now be placed in a NOQ ADM status for essentially TWO weeks IF a NEGATIVE test comes back.


I was trying to be proactive so that CRS could get the trip covered in a timely enough manner. Also, I didn't want to venture out on any FedEx trip knowing I might be tested POSITIVE or develop later symptoms up to the 14 days. Hence, the quarantine. Then exposing others along the way enroute, and any other fellow FDX pilots once in "the field". Essentially wrecking havoc and putting danger into the system.


Why NOT I had asked myself? I'll stay in the comfort of my own little home, get TRIP PAY PROTECTION and not be that potential SPREADER. I'm not asking for any "atta boys" or anything here. I will say there is one takeaway here for anyone who maybe going through this. At least until we defeat or at least control this stupid deadly COVID19 virus and mental psyche hysteria. TRY AND GET A HOLD OF THE on duty D.O., FIRST!!! Why? He will get you pulled off of your trip with PAY PROTECTION. Then you don't get your RSA/DSA bank screwed up like I did by calling in SCK. Dummy me! I am trying to get this reversed now and it is a major PAIN IN THE ASS.

If you have a tough time getting the DO, your Fleet Manager can do the same for you.

Either way, I’d work the notification through a phone call to one of them and let them work the process. They are quite well versed in it at this point.

Also, close contact "per the company lawyers" is less than 6 ft distance for more than 10-15 minutes. FYI if it helps anyone determine what the company calls a close contact. Might save you a phone call

My experience was not this. I talked to the DO first. He told me to go sick in VIPS, then he would put me in NOQ. Even getting ahold of the DO first likely wouldn't have stoped you from having to go sick. The time is gonna come out of your sick bank but RSA was credited back a few days after my quarantine was over. Easy peasy. I think maybe they wait to credit it until you're off NOQ incase you do get a + during the quarantine and the NOQ gets extended further.

FYI: This is ALL off of the CDC website which FedEx has to follow along with the FAA guidelines which they naturally get from the CDC. Just inform and prepare yourself. And, maybe expect a phone call from your Fleet Manager after you "pull the trigger". I did. He'll want and need to collect some information from you. This kind of event is covered and pay protected under our MOU.

It is important to clarify the usage of several terms as relevant for the current COVID-19 pandemic. In this document:

A contact is defined as someone who had any contact with an infected person (probable or confirmed COVID-19 case) while they were infectious – starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic clients, 2 days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.

Close contact is defined by CDC as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.​ The World Health Organization (WHO) additionally includes persons with direct physical contact with a probable or confirmed case, direct care for a patient with probable or confirmed COVID-19 disease without using proper personal protective equipment, and other situations as indicated by local risk assessments.

UPDATE 1/9/2021: Bank balances for RSA ALL resolved. Replenished back to the 72 hrs for year 2021. Seems as though it could take up to severals days AFTER being placed in the NOQ ADM "CLOSE CONTACT" status. HINT: Do an INSITE report if this happens to you. At least it'll get the ball rolling! Good luck guys, out there. Try NOT to get sick.
