Default Local Council Meetings, Do you miss them?

Do you miss local council meetings where you have direct face to face interactions with your reps and being able to participate in the democratic process?

I sure wish you'd just post your end goals with all this rhetorical-question posting. Out with it.

When was that? I've never been to one.

I'm puzzled. It seems like a simple question. Due to COVID restrictions, we have not been able to conduct Local Council meetings (in Memphis, at least) for over a year. Does it matter to you?

If you've never been to one, probably not. If you're interested in being involved in the grass roots level democratic process of our union, maybe so.

And for someone yelling, "Division!", doesn't it seem ironic that you were the first to post an argumentative response?

Just an observation. Like I said, seems like an easy question.

For MEM councils, problem solved. Mississippi is open. I’m sure most won’t have a problem driving down to OB or S’haven for a meeting.

Yep, that's what I thought until my rep told me the MEC chairman told him that ALPA national was still prohibiting Local Council Meetings. My rep is looking into this. But imagine my surprise to hear from my rep that the MEC Chairman doesn't appear to be helping to hold Local Council Meetings while telling reps they can't hold a Local Council Meeting in MS where the restrictions have been eased.

My surprise is that this happened after being told by the ALPA national Sec, in an email, that the only reason we are not having Local Council Meetings (the only ALPA meeting not happening) during Covid was because governmental restrictions and that the DOL is not enforcing the requirement for Local Council Meetings. He did not indicate any ALPA prohibition, just governmental restrictions.

All of this is happening, right before the MEC is going to pen openers without face to face meetings with the members. PSPP is in your future if nothing is done. Delta plus a nickel is also in your future if you don't get involved. If that is what you want, I bet you don't need to do much. If you would like a voice, reach out to your reps.

This is one reason I want to see if YOU want Local Council Meetings. There are other reasons, but let's get through this one before I give you the rest.

If it’s National dictating this, I would ask what I’m the constitution & by-laws or the administrative manual gives them that authority. But there is probably more to the story.
