Okayyyy, original comment was along the lines of FedEx Reserve sucks because when you're on Reserve you have to actually be in Domicile unlike Industry standards.
As much as I'd like to see the LC\SC Industry Standards, well, Cargo Industry Standard is dramatically different the the Pax Industry Standard for reserve.

So, since there are plenty of ways to protect the system and still improve reserve pilot QOL. How about you trot them out?
How do we get rid of the 90 minute call out and still protect the freight timing? How do we minimize the need to be in Memphis when FedEx wants to protect a hefty portion of every fleets flying every night?
More people on ASBY every night?

In this increased age of connectivity, there are some things that Should be a no brainer. Why can't Reserve Pilots swap Reserve assignments? Why can't they Trade for OT? Why does the company often seem to have the Never Do a Pilot a favor mindset

But it isn't a Comparison between FedEx work rules and UPS work rules.

Report times are very similar as is the requirement to be in Domicile while on Reserve.

I probably didnít word my comment clearly.

Everything in the contract is comparable to all of the career airlines. We donít compete for pilots with just UPS. We compete for pilots against ALL airlines.

There's no need for examples of how the reserve system could be different when there are plenty of examples in the passenger world that have been tried and test and those operations have even more arrivals and departures for fortress hubs clustered around specific times.. The talk about how the system form is different is just regurgitating something that sounds like a negotiating talking point from the management.

Other bases within the company have longer call out times on reserve so its possible.

As for being a junior 757CA, the answers you get will only be good for the moment they are given. Things change based on staffing levels and the operating environment for the company. That said somethings are universal. Everything is better with the job when you live in base.

The thing about the 757 is as a general rule the legs are relatively short and monthly block hours at Fedex are some of the lowest you're gonna find anywhere. Our Pax Bros are flying 70+ blk hours a month. Its the rare fedex guy that's gonna roll that stone and it will likely be by choice

Thanks for the info.

What are the hotel Fedex rates these days in Memphis area? Peabody used to have $69 and a free shuttle to the training facility from what I remember. Not sure if itís still the case.

When I look at Fortress Delta or Fortress American, I think I'll see departures starting around 0530 and continuing through 1130. When I look at Fortress FedEx, I'll see two distinct departure windows (and one distinct arrival window.) I'll see departures from 0230-0430 and 1500-1800 (roughly)
It might be just me, but I'm still thinking system form is very different for FedEx\UPS as compared to Pax carriers. As one example, what "we" tend to call 1 day trips would be 2 days for the Pax pilots (or have I misunderstood comments on other posts)

When I fly on a Pax line, attitude seems to be...we'll get you there, eventually. But no promises on the timing. And if we have to, we'll cancel flights versus doing whatever we can to find a pilot to fly it.
FedEx and UPS both have various delivery guarantees.

And both FedEx and UPS have similar report times across the country.

might be just me, but I don't think our Reserve system is why people don't apply with us.

And, for all the Reserve sucks mindset, there's a surprisingly Senior cohort of FedEx pilots who predominantly sit Reserve.
Something that caught me by surprise, the #3 VTO guy in 75 land has been grabbing RB versus flying trips.

So, we shouldnít improve this QOL factor for approximately 1/3 of our pilots? Only go after things that beniefit just you. Gotcha. And if LŃ can have a 3hr callout, Memphis can have a 2 hr callout. Itís not rocket science.

Exactly! And with this new normal of consistent systemic delays, I donít see how improved R rules and a longer callout could possibly negatively effect delivery guarantees... which I would hazard a guess are not really being kept anyway.

I flew with a Captain several months ago that lives in base. This personís attitude was ďI donít commute, I donít sit reserve, and I donít give a sh*t about anything other than pay rate. Pay me more money and screw lie-flat seats, it doesnít effect me anyway.Ē

I truly hope this person is in the minority.

I think his point is reserve must not suck as bad as some are saying if it goes so senior. He isn't wrong either. Look at the reserve list. You will find that he is correct.

I think some simple reserve changes that would help would be the removal of "best fit" and an increased call out time to 2 hours in MEM. Another gain would be to only allow R24 pilots to be converted into "flying trips" and limit it to 3 times a month. The SWW needs more work in my opinion than reserve.
