ALPA National Elections--October

Greetings from UAL,

As a fellow ALPA affiliated airline, you should be aware of what's happening in our neck of the woods and how it affects the upcoming ALPA national elections. Our former MEC chair, Todd Insler is running for ALPA national president and will be soliciting support from other airline MECs in the next couple of months.

We are in the throes of a contentious contract negotiation that has been exacerbated by intra-union politics. The general feeling among membership is our union leadership is out of touch with the rank & file and that there is a too familiar relationship between management and union leadership, cultivated over the past several years. I encourage you to read the United Contract 2022 subthread under the United tab for greater context.

Today, the Newark Council 5 membership voted overwhelmingly (5 to 1) to proceed with recall efforts of our LEC officers. Additionally, the membership overrode the LEC chair to pass several additional resolutions to send very clear messages to the company and union leadership. There are similar recall efforts proceeding at other domiciles.

Please do your due diligence when looking at our next national officers and consider what is transpiring at United.

Fairness in communications. (Both sides of any recall ballot have to have equal comms.)
Recall of LEC Chair (497 to 101)
Recall of LEC Vice (505 to 85)
Recall of S/T (462 to 118)
No confidence in, and recall of, Negotiating committee
No confidence in Mike Hamilton
No confidence in Todd Insler (member of C5)
Public rebuke of, and apology by, Capt Ward due to his repeated infractions of Alpa C&BL.
Restricting the NASC ("the Steering Committee) from its current 11 members back to the 2 recommended in the Alpa manual.

Todd Insler attended the meeting, but did not afford his own council the courtesy of introducing himself or addressing any of the issues other than whether a recall resolution of Bob Ward on the NASC was in order.

Folks:

This is a matter that should be taken seriously. The UA line pilots are asking for help because they can't seem to get it from their own LEC reps - that alone should tell you what you need to know about their candidate for National President. If you have any friends, family, squadron mates, jumpseaters, whatever, at UA get the story from them. This is worth contacting your reps about. I have contacted mine. Todd Insler has done nothing but damage at UAL. In three terms as MEC chair (he subverted their two-term limit), he didn't get them a contract. That's just the tip of the incompetence iceberg. Meanwhile, the DAL MEC whose chairman is running against Insler for National President has done pretty well for them.

Who do you want in charge of your union? Your only vote comes by proactively contacting your LEC rep. DO IT! A simple email or phone call is all it takes to have your opinion considered.

I've contacted my reps multiple times over the past few months about this very issue. Todd Insler can NOT be allowed to run ALPA! What he has done at UAL is despicable.

Please talk to your reps. Its your money and career.

Also look at the attendance from ONE UA LEC Meeting. During the last FDX MEC Joint Council Meeting in MEM, less than 20 line pilots attended. Less than 20 out of Councils 07, 22, and 26.

It is time to get involved at all levels.

UA pilots have a MUCH higher percentage of pilots that live in base. Their union also is in the middle of a recall effort, ours isn't... (not yet at least).

That UA LEC hasn't had an in-person meeting in years as the LEC chairman has been hiding out under NJ covid restrictions. There were 500 votes including proxies, so at least 150 pilots (and I believe it was FAR more) were at that meeting. They passed a no-confidence resolution against Todd Insler with a vote of roughly 80% against him.

That's how screwed up he's gotten things there. That's why you need to call your LEC rep and make sure he doesn't get the keys to ALPA national.

FYI, our Newark Council 5 just recalled all three of our LEC representatives by 70/78/65% respectively (~70% of the council voting). All three were complicit and unapologetic in advocating a horrendously substandard TA to the pilot group. All three utilized union communication to advocate against recall while forbidding any pro-recall messaging. All three were mum about an allied pilot who improperly used ALPA national email channels to advocate against recall. All three are supportive of Todd Insler's run for ALPA national president. Insler was our MEC chairman who failed to capitalize on an incredibly favorable negotiating environment in 2019, but did direct negotiations on what turned out to be the aforementioned concessionary TA.

We are sending a message to ALPA that we are displeased with our representation. Todd Insler was part of that representation and has no business as ALPA national president.

Out of curiosity, what about ORD, IAD, CLE, GUM, EWR?

ORD & IAD have good reps who voted No on our POS TA and are trying to right the ship of the dysfunctional incompetent UAL MEC. EWR is Council 5 where we recently recalled all three officers. CLE & Gum are
very small bases. Recalls probably not gonna happen.
