getting extended and guys pulling draft

First off Im an FNG and I get it but here is my question.

example 1) I get extended and company claims to be fat on pilots hence 4a2c etc. etc. Can I file a grievance on that? I mean they're are taking away my family time because they don't have enough crews. Obviously this is a malicious act and is inflicting harm on my family's well being.

example 2) The fact they're calling for draft yet claiming to the short of guys. Again company acting out of malice to financially harm a group or individual.

Seems like overtime I get a draft call or extended I should file a grievance. Is this outside the ROE ?

Welcome to the suck of the new Company. There is nothing you can do if they are operating within the limits of the current CBA. Report draft calls to the union on the website. If you are fatigued or feel unsafe to fly as the result of a full extension, do the safe thing and call out fatigued or sick.

It shouldn't be, but that appears to be our union position. At least until the recent past. Which SUCKS! Because I really only want about 4 things from my union for the $$$ I pay in dues:

1) Negotiate ironclad, industry leading CBAs void of squishy language to be exploited by the company. I doubt the current NC can fix all the squishy language on this go round, but hopefully we can get some improvements in the language along with getting close to industry parity with a new TA. So far that's been a C- IMHO.

2) 24/7 CE presence and assistance. F@(% the "fly it and grieve it" BS. We pay enough $$ to have some 20# brain paralegal who knows the CBA inside and out to answer the phone 24/7 and let me know if what the company is trying to do to me is legal or not. Current grade: D-.

3) Be absolutely BRUTAL with filing grievances. I KNOW this costs money. Spend it! I want the union to be so aggressive on grieving every cute idea the company and schedulers have, that they actually start to fear creatively interpreting the CBA language. Currently it's like we're inviting the company to screw us over harder, because we don't stand up for ourselves, at least grievance-wise. D-.

4) Send lawyers, guns, and money when my job is on the line. Here I have to admit the union has stepped up for me personally. So B+.

I don't know where the current draft-DART process is going to take us. Hopefully to a grievance at a minimum, if not an actual effort to recover the $$$$ being stolen in 4A2FU.

You can't be that new, but welcome to the sh!tshow!

Welcome to the airline industry. Where the cards are heavily in favor of the company/management.

They conduct these acts and they're covered by operational necessity.

We do anything and it's considered a change of the status quo subject to TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) and fines imposed upon ALPA.

Whatever happened to the 4a2c grievance, anyway?

That's what the union threatens us with anyway.. we haven't had the fortitude to actually "do anything" in over 20 years.

Since when is a guy who has been here 7 years an FNG?

Some day we will figure out that we are the union. What do you think the MEC means when they say the company looks past them and at us?

What message are we sending when pilots pick up disputed pairings, ask to be extended plus many more items? What message do we send when we continually snipe at each other? What message do we send when we blame others rather than taking ownership for our decisions?

That we’re happy with the way we are utilized. That we’re happy with 2015 pay rates. That we like it in the bunghole. Any other questions?

This is the best thread. I got a call for DRAFT yesterday on a jet that’s getting 50 hours a month in credit. Yeah that’s right. FedSux pilots working for 50 hour guarantee. Who the F would even consider this company as a viable job forget about a career. Read these threads and know this company sucks and they’re doing this to us on purpose. Anyways, I was able to keep the draft call going for 5 min and 45 seconds I feel like that’s not enough to take my time back from the company. Keep up the fight out there. My apps go out on Nov 15th (100% vested in the pension) and I bet more will have left by then. Adios FedSux.

What about the flex instructors working 28 days a month, some doing 2 events in a day? Last week when their calendars were temporarily unblocked from looking at their school house events the majority of them are getting over 90 hours a month whoring themselves out. I say open that section of the contract up and let the company have their way, I’m sick and tired of holding the line while these guys do this. These guys have always operated on their own, I don’t consider them part of the crew force when they’re doing things like that. LCAs are different but the flexes doing 90 to 100 hours a month is straight up wrong.

Block 11 needs to be disbanded and replaced with Block 9. No special block should represent instructors. Go to your respective seniority block and have a nice day.

Block 11 (FLEX, LCA, SCA) have ALWAYS been the greatest offenders feeding from the greed trough during negotiations and whenever it suits them to pad their schedules. Now they all hide behind their MINT calendars as independent contractors.

The MEC should publish the top offenders in each fleet and seat. It’s a direct correlation to dues money paid monthly. This goes for the line and schoolhouse independent contractors.

Use caution in this “taking hostages” environment if you choose to call them out in person, phone call, or text. They’ll run to management like cowards and claim workplace intimidation. It’s encouraged by management to divide the crew force.

We have to look no further than internally to determine why negotiations continue to drag on.
Maybe someday we’ll figure it out like the other majors.
