This is why ALPA is broken
There is (another) open ballot for nominations in 26. We are now supposed to choose between a bunch of people about whom we know nothing unless we just happen to know them. In today's day and age, why can't there be a zoom debate where they each answer questions and talk the issues over?
Our leadership talks about staying off of social media when instead it could be used to fix the problem. I am absolutely fed up with nominations and elections in which all I know about the candidates comes from a bu!!$hit email in which they give a brief resume and promises to "fight for my interests". This is literally the first step to the next recall as a wolf in sheep's clothing will likely slip by yet again. |

We need qualified candidates that step up with good intentions to help our interests. Not just in contract negotiations but daily life at FedSux. This company tries to screw you over at every turn. THE EXACT OPPOSITE of any gouge you may have heard about this dumpster fire. -Bubs |
The revolving door of recall would probably at least slow down if there were any reasonable way for us to vet and compare the candidates.

The amount I know about union “leadership”, I might as well just vote based off their last name and photo, which most of the time was what I did |

My 121 and 135 union experience mirrors this, reminds me of highschool president elections.

There’s enough continuity to keep the ship together. Here? 😂 -Bubs |
PS, one of the Block 6 nominees was just on Jetflyers a couple days ago saying he’d be in MEM before the sort answering questions. Sounds like a step in the right direction. Would be nice if they could all come in and have a webcast, or “unscripted” type video with a Q&A. That being said, Pizza Pat did a few hub turn meetings. Look how that turned out..

This isn't that hard. |
ALPA itself cannot do this for elections. So it would take a pilot in that block / council to ask all the candidates if they would do something like this, and for someone to organize it. For someone to send out a campaign letter cost 50 dollars. So the money would also need to be spent to let the pilots know this event would take place. It can easily happen, someone just has to organize it, and that person can't be ALPA getting into a labor election. So if you are in the council, reach out to the reps and get one setup. I think it is a great idea, someone just has to execute it. You could probably record it, since it is not an ALPA sanctioned event, and have it on youtube for other people to watch and cast their votes. Again with everyone's permission, just need an organizer. But a DART to get full confirmation wouldn't be the worst idea.

A zoom debate is the answer. Ask a bank of standard questions and have a period prior to the debate for submitted questions. Leave it up and accessible via the ALPA website until the election.
This isn't that hard. You could, you know, just call them. You're likely to get better answers than in a group setting. If you don't like what you hear, you can always campaign against them. The campaign emails you see go out don't have to be from the candidate. |

Most reps wannabes put their phone number or email in their campaign literature.
