I imagine they want to screen everyone's FEX-W to save themselves hassle down the road.
From what I've heard they have had a few guys do what they were warned against doing in other threads, ie saying they had a FEX-W before they actually did. This was done by saying they had one, when in fact they hadn't taken the exam yet. (This was done on the initial Profile page where you verify you have all the minimum requirements they want. Clicking the button before you have a current FEW-W is tantamount to lying in FedEx's eyes. It is verified by date one applies and date on FEX-W. )
Rumor has it there have been some that have gotten the boot for doing this; some even got as far as doing the paperwork after getting conditional offer and this was discovered and they were sent packing!
Moral of the story. Don't say you have things if you don't! Sounds simple but apparently a few folks don't do it.

The story about this dude getting canned after interview, conditional hire, and jubilation about a FedEx job sounds true. Bummer to have this happen. Heard it was a good dude. Resist the urge to click "I have the FE written done" before it is actually done is the moral of the story.

And yet, some of us have taken it 4 times or more.
So when you say you have it, hopefully they don't ding you for retaking it every time it expires :-(

There were two places to do this....the first was the initial profile page that allows you to gain access to the actual application website and the second opportunity was on the actual application itself. Which one are people getting questioned about? I would imagine it would be the second as that is the actual application submission date.

Don't know any details, but I think the "good dude" label would no longer be applicable, if there were indeed an integrity issue.

Once again, to emphasize--unlike "a lot" of the rest of society, government, and the business world, FedEx does not accept lying, cheating, or stealing. If you make an honest mistake or screw up, admit it (tell the truth) and press on.

When FDX opened their application window in February 2002, I was in a hotel in Anchorage. That morning I hiked down to the flight school on Merrill Field, bought a FEX study book and scheduled the computer test. I crammed all day and night, went down and took it the next day. Then I filled out the application. I can't relate to someone not doing it that way. What's the excuse?

I've heard "He's a good dude" so often I'm convinced 90% of us are above average, great candidates.

The change is intended to shift hiring toward good pilots over the old good dude criteria.

I'll never understand why smart guys crack under the pressure of the hiring process. Do they underestimate the importance of their actions? To get ahead of other guys? Do they feel they must do it to make a few more dollars over their lifetime? I'm always surprised when I hear these stories. You really find out someone's true nature when they are under stress. A side of them you've never seen may emerge. I'm especially dismayed by how often I've seen it derail former mil guys.

There really is no way to justify these missteps. If you've gone thru life using this type of "skill" to get ahead now is the time to give it up. If you can.

I recently had an "FO class" at which "O" spoke. He addressed this very thing and said they were checking dates on everything. An integrity check, as he called it. Dishonesty will sink you faster at this company than anything else I can think of. Not worth it.
