Blocking someone's training trade
So this hasn't happened to me because I don't care to upgrade sooner because at the moment I like my seniority.. but I get requests all the time for people wanting to swap training and they need the "I will not block the swap". Grant it its kind of annoying all the time having to do this but I do because frankly someone is going to training whether it's pilot A (senior) or pilot B(junior)...
My question is why in the heck are some of you blocking your fellow pilots from swapping? I've now heard a few names of guys who are doing it and I'm kinda questioning why? One response I heard was well he said I got blocked so I'm now the blocker as well.... petty..... seriously as a pilot group what is up? I get because you can you can... and because your senior you can block BUT like I said someone is going to have to go and if it helps out two fellow pilots ..... why the pettiness?

I have been asked to approve training swaps many times.
I have always agreed.
Those that don't agree never have a good reason.
I could use a lot of adjectives to describe them, but I would probably get banned.
Someone is going to get trained. I can't see how it would affect anyone in between the swappers in the least bit.

I denied a trip trade once ...
It was the standard deal where a guy senior to me wanted to trade training dates with a guy junior to me.
I offered a 3 way trade where I would move into the senior guys slot (I wanted the earlier training date, it was an upgrade with a significant pay raise) and the guy junior to me could move into my slot allowing the senior guy the junior slot that they originally proposed.
They both rejected the idea and called me all sort of names. I was OK with that. What's wrong with trying to move up my training date instead of allowing someone junior to me to get my pay raise?
After having had years to think about my decision, I think I'd do it again with slightly "softer" verbage ...

So Mayday Mark is "that guy"?
I made a mistake one time.
When I was supposed to go to a brand new jet, and train very soon, someone offered to swap dates with me with my training delayed for about a year.
I had some family stuff going on but nothing serious, just "must attend" type stuff, so the later date was better for my life situation. It ended up costing me about $50,000, from all the training bumps the guy I traded with got.
In retrospect, I should have told my family that it was a $50,000 choice and taken the money.
Of course, I have no one to blame but myself.
So the lesson is, if you are going to a brand new jet, go as early as you can.

Their decision to swap wasn't going to affect your pay raise in any way. Who cares if a junior person goes before you within the scope of the contract? You are going to get paid the same.
This is why we had 57% say YES to a crappy contract because some folks were given a benny that others wouldn't get and they screwed their buddy.
Sorry Mark, but you really are "that guy." I can't believe you admitted it.
