The VEBA 25K is still in there, but you had to have been 54 back in 2006!

So, those guys who were 54 in 2006 and who are hanging out until 65 will still get it.

If you weren't 54 in 2006, "NO SOUP FOR YOU"!!

So much for "our" union treated all age groups fairly.

The young got screwed by age 65, and we will get screwed again if this turd passes.

There are 2 types of veba that apply to us. It is just an IRS term that essentially means money put aside for a particular use. The 25K is dead and gone (I think). The other veba is the 50 cents per hour used to offset post Medicare retiree healthcare. The 25K only a few chosen few got, the post Medicare we all can get.

If you were 54 at the signing date of the last contract, you get the $25K.

At the time, the NC said they cut it off because they ran out of money, and they would address the shortfall in the next contract.

In short, we were lied to, by "our" union.

I'll be looking for a different lanyard to wear to work next time.

Has anyone made up a "send it back" lanyard yet?

If so, I'll be glad to buy one.

I also see this is a "penalty" for retiring early. The way I read it, to get the bonus, you must give them notification to retire no earlier than 31 Dec in the year you turn 60. Turn 60 in January but want the bonus? You have to work another year?

Not just any healthcare. I think the VEBA money is only for the FDX Alpa healthcare insurance. If you have other programs, you can not use the VEBA you paid into during your career.

I hope I'm wrong on this, but that is how it reads to me. (It is in CBA, not the TA)

It's used for assisting you in buying a medicare supplement policy, after you have reached age 65. Prior to this TA, you had to be on the COMPANY'S plan the day you reached age 65, to be eligible. This TA does away with that requirement.

There are enough actual things wrong with this TA. We don't need to be making things up.

This is a "divide and conquer" issue. There are many of us who have 10 plus years with the company and are 53 or less years of age. Why should a 54 + year old with less seniority get a "lump sum" bonus?

"The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) makes it unlawful for you to “discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment, because of such individual’s age.” It’s important to note, however, that only workers who are at least 40 years old are allowed to file a claim under the ADEA."

Any legal experts? If this passes could it potentially be a lawsuit for reverse age discrimination?
