$25 Change Fee???
Can any one help to explain this "enhancement"?
I just got off the phone with Global Travel. I was changing a deviation ticket to an earlier flight. My schedule has changed for the 20th time this month, since scheduling is doing their own PBS lately, and I now have enough bank to buy that expensive early ticket home. So after I made the change, I asked the Global Travel agent how much that change cost the company. Her answer was as follows: "There is never a charge, unless you ask to purchase a non-refundable ticket. All our tickets are bought fully refundable. Occasionally international tickets are bought that allow a small fee for changes, however they are several thousand dollars less than the normal ticket. The company gives us approval to use those tickets since they are so much cheaper. however, these tickets are rarely used." I told her that our new contract charged us $25 after the second change to a deviation. She stated: "Well that charge would come from somewhere other than Global Travel. We incur no charges to change non-refundable tickets. There is a small booking fee for every ticket purchased, but it is a very tiny fee. Maybe they are trying to pass all the booking fees on to you guys?" What say you gurus? What is the deal with this new change? Is her info correct? |
Some people do buy nonrefundable tickets using company credit card, because that's the only way to stay under the bank. Maybe that's where it comes from.

That is the Problem
Yep, like so many other portions of the contract, we are wondering to ourselves what is the intent or meaning of too many sections. I have tried to ask this question on the T&A...err Q&A web site, but never get a pop up box to ask the question.

Certain airlines charge change/cancel fees. I'm not sure which airlines charge, but I've had them before on Emirates and Singapore. All were bought through global travel. I've never had to pay for any of them, even canceled deviation travel. This TA changes that...

Great Advice!
Well, I read it again, still sort of vague! If it's vague, I'm sure there is no history of the company exploiting poor language.
Thanks for the tip on the pop up blocker, however mine is not turned off. |
If it's so clear to you Pinseeker, then please explain it to us that can't find the meaning of this vague language. I've also asked the question on the Q and A part of the web site but haven't received a response.

Guys, I am a huge NO vote, but this section is not one of my beefs. This is actually an improvement.
The Company shall pay all fees associated with scheduled deadhead tickets. Fees associated with an unused deviation ticket shall not be allowable unless a Company schedule change was the reason why the ticket could not be used, or had to be changed. These costs/fees shall be handled in accordance with Section 8.C.5.b., and shall be limited to the actual cost but shall not exceed $25 per transaction. Note: When a deviating pilot arranges for the booking of his deviation travel, either via an electronic system(s) or by phone contact with the Company’s travel department or vendor, the Company is responsible for any of the above-listed fees that may be incurred due to the cancellation of the scheduled travel, and/or the booking of the pilot’s deviation travel itinerary. However, in the event the pilot makes any subsequent changes to his deviation travel itinerary, and if those changes result in any of the above-listed fees, he shall be responsible for those fees. Italics added by me. If you do what you do now, there is no change. IF you make changes to a back-end-DH ticket on and it ends up costing the company more than $25 then you may get hit. Really, guys. There are plenty of things to be fired up about in this TA. This is not one of them. |
