I'm telling you it's far better than the doom-and-gloomers here would have you believe. I don't for a moment wish I'd worked the extra 3 years for the income that would be in it. And the outgo has a far different flavor.
But I knew I could trust you to pick on the least significant point, and the one point aimed at humor. That's why I included it. Just curious...You left at 57? With how many years of service at FDX? Military retirement? I'd like to leave early, as well. But, adding up my home life expenses...I don't see how my 401K will get me there. Especially, after 30+/- years of declining A plan value. |
If you read my post you see I started it with: "As far as the company's liabilities go...." So I was taking about the company's cost only. I'll try to be more clear:
An over 60-year old with over 25-years at the company, cost the company 130K less per year then a 59-year old doing the same job. The company is making out on this TA by motivating guys to work until 65. The company saves 650K over those 5-years and in exchange they payout up to half of their already earned DSA!!!! The Company will be handing out some big management bonus over the next 6 years for this TA. The company could have paid out 50% of the lost pension of 650K that was not taken between 60 and 65, and still been way ahead!!! I'm buying more FedEx stock because pilots....well, we dumb. |

But, your clarity here is spot on. I too find it incredible that our own Rep's and NC won't even acknowledge such a simple observation. We have agreed to try to get guys to work their arses off their last 2 years, so they can earn less, as a bonus, than the company saves each year that they work past 60. Ridiculous! Why would we want incentives for guys to stay? I thought we were suppose to be trying to make it easier to retire. |

Who is this captain, what company does he work for, and what is his seniority number? I'd like to bid with him.
Disregard. Our schedules, under the new TA, will never allow us to have a beer anyway. Pipe P.S. Come December the company is going to channel Otter in Animal House. "Crew force, you can't spend your whole life worrying about your mistakes! You f@$*!d up... you trusted us!" |

What are you talking about Pipe? You'll have plenty of time to get a beer on all those 36hr layovers the company "promises" to give after you exceed 8-24. We repeated the Supplemental Rules in our CBA for a reason, so that if they ever changed, we'd still have the protections. Now we give them away. . |
Supplemental rules are still the same.
Difference is we normally fly under a different set of rules. And our current contract says. "A pilot who exceeds 8 ABH in any consecutive 24 hour period shall be scheduled for a rest period of 17 hours prior to performing his next duty as an operating crew member. That rest period may be operationally reduced as necessary, consistent with FAR limitations" |
And, unless I'm reading the FARs incorrectly, our theoretical rest could be 8 hours (which unfortunately still includes time associated with local transportation)
FAR clipping w/normal and reduced rest provided for convenience • Normal Rest Requirements Crewmembers must during the 24 consecutive hours preceding the completion of any flight segment have: 121.471(b). - 9 consecutive hours of rest for less than 8 hours of scheduled flight time. - 10 consecutive hours of rest for 8 or more but less than 9 hours of scheduled flight time. - 11 consecutive hours of rest for 9 or more hours of scheduled flight time. • Reduced Rest Requirement 121.471(c) - For less than 8 block hours rest may be to reduced to a minimum of 8 hours if the flight crewmember is given a rest period of at least 10 hours that must begin no later than 24 hours after the commencement of the reduced rest period. - For 8 block hours but less than 9 block hours rest may be reduced to a minimum of 8 hours if the flight crewmember is given a rest period of at least 11 hours that must begin no later than 24 hours after the commencement of the reduced rest period. - For 9 or more block hours rest may be reduced to a minimum of 9 hours if the flight crewmember is given a rest period of at least 12 hours that must begin no later than 24 hours after the commencement of the reduced rest period. |
