FDX: min days off protection with carryover
#31
Is this confusion due to language changes in the new contract or has this interpretation always been in the mix?
Related question: Carryover trip from Nov to Dec (awarded on original bidline, since that seems to be a factor) is creating potential min day off conflict in Dec.
Will they always drop the shortest trip in December to fix the MDO? I'm looking at a line in December with two trips. The longer (by about 3 CH) is mid-month. The shorter is a carryover trip (Dec to Jan) with enough days in Dec to fix the MDO issue if it were dropped. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with such a situation and if there is some kind of restriction on dropping carryout trips. Which one would they drop?

Been screwed on that one! Oh, my trip Christmas week will get dropped, because it fits the profile and I asked for it first. Ha, forget it, the desirable longer trip gets dropped because it's not near the holiday.
Unless, of course, the new contract changes any of that.

That does confirm the experience I've had over twenty years. Never had min days not protected when requested, whether I got the trip as CIC, makeup, or swap. I'd like the ones who said otherwise to direct us to exactly where it says when min days won't be protected. The secret scheduling manual?

Emailed crew planning after I posted here. I gave the same two trip scenario with the additional factor that I will need two days dropped to protect min days off. Here's what I got.
email #1 reply:
The minimum days protection program drops the trips –I believe it is programmed to not drop trips that operate over Christmas or New Years.
I respond:
So if the awarded line had a 2-day trip working over Christmas and a 12-day trip earlier in the month, the 12-day trip is going to be dropped? That's surprising.
I would think someone in crew planning would know the answer to that for certain.
Final response from CP:
A trip over Christmas will not be dropped. What I meant in regards to the programming was it will either drop the larger trip automatically or not drop anything and require us to handle it manually. Either way, the larger trip would be dropped if it is the trip not operating over Christmas.
